Thoery on Thyrus
The elementals have always intrigued me and the lore on Thyrus is iinteresing.
It doesn't resemble a typical cnj/whm staff because its made from a petrified (great) tree. And since elemental reside in trees what if that weird looking thing on its top is a petrified/dead elemental? It'll explain its power.
It'll also explain why it looks like that. After looking around the 1.0 elemental oha sok kinda look like the tip of thyrus. Never played 1.0 so don't know now the other elemental look.
What do you guys think? Is thyrus a petrified elemental? If so HOW did it become petrified?

I'm stoked to see interest in this because it means we might be a little closer to an someone popping in to tell us. Now that you mention it, the shape on top does slightly resemble elemental limbs, albeit at different proportions. Did we actually hear anything about the tree that it was made from, or just that was made from wood? I'm not entirely sure the elemental goes with it, or even continues to exist in any form after death (but I know very little about elementals). I'm convinced that it is of Allag origin, but beyond that I'm at a loss.
I once read an interview stating that the weapons were "very special" and would be "upgradeable." I don't know if this simply meant from iLV80 to iLV90 or if we should later be able to level it up to LV55 and beyond. If the latter is the case, I'd be very very much looking forward to expanding the lore on the piece with every upgrade. In such a case, I'd be willing to wait to learn more about them over time... but if that's not the case, and we're done with them after Zenith to make way for others, I hope we get a little more info about each.

It always reminded me of a 4-winged ahriman-type creature

When I 1st saw it it looked like a bird or the pokemon celebi.
From what I gather from gerolt Thyrus belonged to a towa cant family for generations before it was lost in oghomorro.
From the wmn 1.0 story line oha sok became the whms robe, so it could very well be that thyrus is made from a petrified hedge tree? That the power of that elemental dwindled after so many years of petrificatjon until one of the 1st seedseer/padjal had it made into a staff.
I still believe it's an elemental enhanced staff and the tip is there as an homage to Thyrus the elemental. Talk about fan fiction, lol

The truth about Thyrus is that it's really two petrified seagulls on a stick. :D

I prefer to think of it as a petrified dryad cane whose face got punched in because its mug was too fugly and the consequential punch-hole got filled in with an aether crystal to hide it.
Then painted white.
Or petrified.
Whichever came first.

Decided to bring this up just in case there are any new information that other's have found
