Well gil isn't TOO important in this game, for now just go out and quest. Every 5 levels go to your archer guild and do the class quest. You will always get a weapon from that. As for anything special... not really. Again just go out and quest and queue up when you hit 15 and do some fates while you are at it.
Ive came across random fates
But what do you mean by queue up?
They means queuing up for dungeons.
Once you get to level 10 (and the appropriate part of the story-line, which should be about the same time if you've been doing your story quests) you'll get access to guildhests, instanced mini-dungeons and boss fights that are basically tutorial battles for party combat. Once you've done two of them you'll then unlock the Guildhest Duty Roulette, which lets you do a random guildhest (out of the ones you've unlocked) once a day for a ton of exp.
Once you hit level 15 (and again the appropriate part of the story-line) you'll hit your first real dungeon and your second shortly after. Once you've got two dungeons unlocked that'll unlock the Low Level Duty Roulette, which again you can do once a day and will drop you into a random dungeon you've unlocked in exchange for a truly ridiculous amount of exp.
The game will introduce certain gameplay elements as you level. At the earliest levels, you will have the standard "kill x number of monsters" and "fetch" quests from npcs, designed to send you exploring the world. You will also come across FATEs, which are just large-scale player events. Although admittedly, there are fewer players doing the low level FATEs now.
At level 10, you will be introduced to the leve system, which includes guildhests and levequests. If you've been doing your class quests (which give gil, xp, and weapon/armor upgrades), you will also unlock the hunting log. This is yet another way to level.
We can go in to details about it later, but the best way to earn money at Lv. 8 is to run quests and just level to unlock more content. FATEs give very little money in relation to the xp provided but are the fastest ways to level.
Anyway, guildhests give a nice chunk of gil and xp the first time you finish them. You should unlock your first 2 at Lv. 10 and 2 more unlock every 5 lvls. Levequests also give quest-like amounts of gil and experience, so feel free to use those. The Dungeons at Lv.15 will provide some gil and the best equipment for the next 5 levels, but the real gil is from the low-level duty roulette. Those will be your money makers until Lv.42 when you unlock Tier 2 Beastman quests.
Another option to earn money is gathering. You will have to reach Lv.16 and higher to really make profit from it, but selling items on the marketboards can be very lucrative. Just be sure to double-check the market to see what is selling. Keep in mind that the market is depressed and rather unstable now because of players saving up money for FC housing. The hot items literally change from day-to-day and even hour-by-hour in some places. I would hesitate to recommend crafting as it takes even more levels and a certain amount of gil before those become lucrative, but that option also exists.
My humble advice: stick yourself to main scenario quests, read (yes, read) the active help windows as soon as they pop up and join FATEs you may find on the fly.
About money... well, you're not earning a lot. Enjoy the ride and think about money later on.
Once you unlock guildleves and have done the first 1, do the roulette every day.
If you are really hurting for gil/new bows, pick up botanist and carpenter which are both available in Gridania.
At low levels, your equipment choices are only going to be limited anyway, so if you've been doing your class quests (at level 1 and 5, and the next one for you will be at level 10), you'll be given a new weapon with each quest, along with some new armour choices, meaning you don't have to spend a lot of money.
Also, if you come across Allagan currency (Allagan Tin, Allagan Bronze, Allagan Copper, Allagan Gold and Allagan Silver), usually offered through quests but you can find it in dungeons and even get it as certain FATE rewards, sell these to a NPC shop - that's their whole purpose.
