Can't you tell us when our post has passed 1000 characters before we try to submit it

Please tell us when our post is past 1000 characters before we try to submit it. It's stupid to tell us after submit. Sometimes when I really had to elaborate, my post ran long. I gave up rather than editing it down and posting it again. Do I have to count characters myself?

Literally all you have to do is copy/cut out a section of it, post and press edit, and paste it back in.
You can bypass the character limit that way.
