Early Grand Company Quest Rewards - Useless?

To: Yoshida-san and the SE Community Reps,

Can we get a confirmation if the Unique, Untradeable Rewards for the 3 Quests related to the start of the Grand Companies are going to be used in future Quests / to gain access to the Grand Companies?

Or are they just standard rewards to be used / NPC'd?

Specifically:

Quest: The Tug of the Whorl
Reward: Dusken Draught

Quest: A Call to Arms
Reward: Onyx Tears

Quest: Seeing the Sears
Reward: Kiss of the Morning Meadow


I was fine just waiting to see if the Grand Companies needed these Unique / Untradeable Rewards, but from the latest Raid Dungeon Update on Lodestone, it mentions 2 New Quests ("Into the Dark" and "Imperial Devices") that are the key to gaining access to the Dungeons (which should be tied to the Grand Companies).

So with Inventory Space being so limited, can we get confirmation if these 3 Items will be used in some capacity in the future?

Because if not, I'll gladly NPC them now to gain back 3 Inventory Slots. :)

Aren't they consumables? Just drink them. If you're looking for something to hang on to it's most likely deaspected crystals.

Yah, you can consume them, but with such elegant, "important-sounding" names; the fact that they're Unique & Untradeable; and that all 3 were rewards specifically for helping LL, Gridania and Ul'dah start up interest in the Grand Companies, there's potential they might be used for something in the future / additional quests. (^_^;

I'd just like a confirmation one way or the other is all. :)

I doubt consumables from non-repeatable low level fetch quests will be used for any important future content. If you do end up needing them for whatever reason I'm sure there will be a way to get more.

Good point. I think if it was important enough, they'd find a way to let us repeat the Quest to get the item. Just want to see if we can get any official reply from Community Reps.

I think these items will be used in later quests. Many quest items in FFXI were untradable so I can only think that, with these consumables being needed for future quests, would be the case.

On the other hand there are probably many people who have used or thrown them away by now, so they would have a problem if those items were needed at a later date.

I just can't think why they would be given Unique/ Untradable status when they would essentially be useful for nothing.

This reminds me. Has anyone tried drinking these potions and have seen how much HP/MP they replenish? I still have no idea if they even have any significant practical use.

That's what I was thinking as well. Why make them Unique / Untradeable (even though the Quest is non-repeatable) if they weren't going to use them?

But then as I noted in the original post, the 2 New Quests SE mentions are different from the 3 Quests that these items originate from. Maybe the 2 new Quests require one of those items?

Regardless, I think as Brannigan says, they'd probably have to allow people to repeat the Quest to regain the Item if they really were a Key Item for a future Quest for Grand Companies. There'd be an uproar if you only had 1 chance at it and most people already NPC'd them or drank them. ;)

Part of me just wants to NPC them to get 3 Inventory Slots back now, but I also worry it might be used for something later.

I used a couple to stay alive/regen MP while soloing baby-NMs. Don't remember how strong they were, but in a pinch they did the trick.

I used my rewards on random passing strangers, taking advantage of the fact that we can now use items on others!
