[Dev 1082] Black Chocobo

The other day I was watching my friend play Everquest 2, he was showing me his griffin mount, which I thought was cool. This got me thinking about what the devs have said about not wanting to give us the same tired mount system we had in FFXI, and I started to wonder if flight by chocobo may be possible in the future.

There is precedence for it in the series, in FFV and FFIX you get a black chocobo that allows you to fly around the world. With how large they made the zones in FFXIV, one has to wonder if the devs were thinking about aerial travel when they made that comment about mounts. Anyway, just thought I'd check if people were in favor of seeing aerial mounts like black chocobos somewhere down the line, or if the community thinks we should remain ground-based, like in FFXI.

Nifty idea, but the black Chocobo doesn't really work the more realistic looking FF games... Perhaps it's because Chocobo are essentially a type of ostrich and in order to convincingly fly AND carry a person, a bird like that would need a MASSIVE wingspan.

The fact is that a Chocobo with wings that big would look more like a Zu (FFIV, FFV, and FFX versions).

I think flying mounts (should they ever appear in this game) will be more along the lines of the vertical airships from the intro.

Perhaps we will see magitek style mounts as well at some point as well.

I would like to see the personal airships as well, but I disagree that the black chocobo would clash with any sort of realism this game has. Besides, they could always integrate it into the lore. Remember how all the chocobo vendors say the birds are sick? Maybe the immunization shot they developed to combat the sickness triggers a recessive gene that gives them the power of flight.

And I'd love to see full on FFVI-style magitek and have dungeons that use them. Can you imagine a light party stomping around a dungeon in magitek, fire bolting everything?
