Either I'm not figuring it out right or i just don't have the right gear but i cannot defeat tristan. Was this fight hard for anyone else or am i overlooking something.

I just had Titan-egi keep Belias busy while I whittled Tristan down. Ignore Belias because trying to kill it is a waste of time. Just make sure you dodge its attacks because they will one-shot you. Throw Titan a sustain or physick every now and then. Physick yourself while DoTs do the work.
I'm sure there's a more efficient way but being spec'd for SCH, healing through the damage and DoTing Tristan down was what worked for me.
If I remember correctly, I pretty much let Titan tank Belias while keeping the Egi alive and let the NPC who's fighting with you deal with Tristan. I primarily healed because if you lose Titan it's all over. After a while Belias will disappear and the fight just goes downhill.

You should be getting the Echo buff if you fail more than twice. This raises your damage and HP for the fight. Other than that I don't see how anyone can have trouble on this fight as long as they dodge AoE.
