Blue Fox Hide

I've been treasure hunting in the hopes of getting a few pieces of this item for a while now, but I'm unsure as to which map (if there even is a specific one) has a chance of containing this item. I've heard mixed reports of what type of map drops this item: xivdb states that it's a drop from Goatskin Maps, but I've also heard of people getting them from Leather and Boarskin Maps.

So is it just a general rare drop from treasure hunting, or do certain maps have a higher chance of dropping it?

Ive only gotten them from goat, tho I havent done any leather maps. My group does a ton of peiste and boar.. and the occasional toad.

I have only seen this from Goatskin Maps as well and sells for more than what some of the item drops from Peisteskin Maps (excluding pets). Regarding your question in rarity; yes it is quite rare. If you like gambling, you could purchase/gather multiple Goatskin Maps, however, it seems to be more beneficial to just buy the Blue Fox Hide from a friend's experience. :p

Two days ago, it was a reward from a Peisteskin map in our group. I was also part of another group 2 weeks ago where it also came from a Peisteskin map. It seems to be a rather rare drop since we opened over a 100 of Peisteskin maps since they were introduced.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I've been buying up a lot of maps (mostly Goatskin, though) ever since I saw that the Highland set requires Blue Fox Hides, but no luck yet. I have thought about buying it from the markets, but their prices have usually been anywhere from 35k-50k, whereas the maps I buy are usually between 2k and 8k. The cost of the maps have certainly exceeded the cost of buying two Hides already, but I tend to make up some of my losses with the gil reward, and y'know, treasure hunting is pretty fun =P

I'm in the same boat. Been running at least one goatskin map every day for two weeks now, and nothing. It's beginning to aggravate, especially since I need 3 more hides.

That can't be efficient on gil, horrible drop rate. Unless you're strapped on leves, level fishing. Most fish for leves sell on MB for less than you get turning them in, and then in the travel/turn-in time you've got fishing 50 and go to your choice of fishing spot for your choice of map. Apparently there's some people, at least on my server, who think fishing maps is random, but it's determined by location.

...and then after all that are you just trying to make gil? Much better ways than farming what seems a 1% drop or less for an item that's only use...is a sheep rug.

I'm actually planning on using four Blue Fox Hides to make the Highland gear set, so I have absolutely no intent to sell them once I do get them. The prices of Goatskin maps are actually quite cheap on my server, usually 4k-5k per map, which means I can buy one a day with my earning from Beastmen dailies. Sometimes I also luck out and get the 5k gil reward from a map, essentially meaning I just bought one for the price of a teleport (and if the drops are HQ mats, all the more profit down the line). To top that off, I know of a few fast-selling, high-priced items on my server that I can easily obtain without much difficulty (and even profit in the act of acquiring them!).

I'm not doing any of this for the sake of making money: I know full well that I'm losing money doing this. I'm doing this because I enjoy the hunt! I enjoy tracking down rare items, and if these rare items can be used to make rare gear, then it's all the better!

One finally dropped from a Goatskin map. But I haven't seen another since. I made a smock out of it for myself but quickly put it up for sale after someone purchased one for 1 million gil on my server.

Got one from a Grade 2 map. Is that Goatskin?
