So generally speaking, what is "Auto-Attack"?

I haven't played FFXI before, and have no idea what "Auto-Attack" is. Could someone please briefly expalin?

According to the word "Auto-Attack", does it mean once I set all skills for a certain class, and start a combat, I shall worry nothing (i.e. not need to click anything else) until me or the mob's KO'ed?

If my guess was wrong, then what does "Auto-Attack" mean?

Auto attack is the most common form of attack in a mmo.

It is where you engage a mob and click attack and you automatically hit it. Usually a very weak basic attack.

Auto attack will not use any special attack, abilities, or spells. It will just do a normal weak attack over and over again.

Basically it is this.

The stamina bar is removed
Light slash (glad) is removed
You click attack on the mob
-when in range you automatically do light slash every say 2.4 secs(made up that time for example)
-auto attack builds up tp
-you can then use all your buff attacks as well between autoattacks, or when you have tp use a ws like now.

Hey if it gets rid of the stamina bar it already has a major + for me, that thing was a nightmare for any form of buffs or tanking.

But e.g., for Gladiator, who got light/heavy slash/stab (4 basic attacks), will auto-attack
1) just use light slash OR stab? or
2) use both light slash AND stab? or
3) use all 4 attacks?

Do you have any idea how auto-attack decides which basic attack(s) to use? According to which I put first in the skill bar?

it uses light slash, the first one you get, if you watched the video you would know this (and your original question) so i suggest doing that. You will see on there stab and such is still selectable and Guard is 1

You know how you can play some fights in XI-XIII without doing anything? That's an AA.
When it's good it allows for some extremely complex strategies like in XI but when it's bad you're basically just standing there when enemies die left and right hoping you'd have a hand-held to get some gaming done when you're playing a game.

I won't even get to how messed up XIII's system is there you lose the interaction, strategy, feeling of danger and class uniqueness and so on so that dumb people can play. The good news is that people are simple and bought XIII by boatloads. Then again people also buy Modern Warfare corridor-movie games and some just like to sit still and watch clouds go by.

If this sounds bitter then it's because I am. I used to love the feeling of immersion in games that had depth and freedom. Now it's all about getting every single player to the finish line without once feeling lost.

Personally I felt lost in XI in SO many ways and it felt amazing. Just thinking about the logic behind elemental days makes my head spin. Oh memories..

You should come back. I'm just now figuring out all this new abyssea stuff and it makes me feel like I did when I first started playing. Well, almost. Lots to learn and look forward to.

Basically "Auto-Attack" is something the SE Dev team ripped off from other MMO's prevent you from quitting the game before they add new content.
