Removing or adding restrictions to the Aetheryte system?

I've been waiting for an oppertunity to be heard by Square-Enix on this topic and I'll take that chance now!

Am I the only person that think the Aetheryte system is poor?

Being able to teleport to any single point in the map and then to a node to fill in the little blank spots that aren't accessible by a main Aetheryte is just awful.

The current system takes away any sense of adventure in the game, there's no need to explore any part of this world outside of the primary trek to actually attune with the Aetheryte/node itself.. Most of which people just teleport eachother to and from..

It makes the game very systematic and two-dimensional, linear, if you will.

I think having this many Aetheryte makes the game too accessible as well as too fundamentally easy to traverse around in.

While I agree that adding Chocobo's would serve as an in-between to running on foot or just plain teleporting, I think fundamentally the system is just too easy. Why could FFXIV not share a system like FFXI where we have ships from one landmass to another, and a few Teleport locations scattered around the world, and a Warp spell to return us to the last place we attune to?

I think having some Aetheryte's are fine, like the main Plaza's in each city, and maybe one or two around the world.. But couple'd with the Guildleve system how it is, the game is very linear.. The basic players time in the game is Pick up leve > Teleport > Do leve's > Teleport back.

No adventure. No exploration. No fun.

I agree, it really takes away from the fun with this.

Well, first we'd need a reason to go exploring. Which, sadly, there isn't much of. Then we can talk about whether said exploring is "too easy"

Until faster forms of travel, like chocobos, are implemented, exploring is incredibly time-consuming and there's not a ton worth finding thus far (I know because I've spent a lot of time doing it).

I dread the idea of traversing entire maps in the current state of the game whether it would be on a mount (chocobo) or not. So in that respect, I think aetheryte teleporting is fine right now. However, I feel like this feature is trying to make up for other poor designs in the game.

Each aetheryte location has a couple aetheryte gates or whatever they are called in game that occupy the surrounding areas. What I mean is like, Cassiopeia Hollow. If they were to seperate each of these aetheryte areas into new zones and modify their appearance so they feel like new areas, I think removing teleporting would be more practical. They could change it so that you can only go from main town > Aetheryte Camp or Camp > Aetheryte Gate. so that you still have to travel. Anima could be reserved to act as a "hearhstone" for those familiar with WoW. Anima would return you to your home point.

It feels like being able to teleport from anywhere to any crystal is in a way removing the player from the environment. For me the game has become log in every 3 or so days to let my aetheryte recharge so I can teleport everywhere to do my leves. And I don't really like that.

I agree, I think that once Chocobos and Airships have been implemented the anima teleport system should be either removed completely or at the very least made to require more anima so that it is discouraged.

Well I for one like it. And Guild Wars was very effective with unlimited teleporting.

It has nothing to do with forcing people to explore or hiding a lack of content, teleporting is simply a good way to get around the game.

Remember, the intent in FFXIV for us to change roles often and do what we like; that means a lot of traveling. One minute I'm fishing in Gridania and the next I'm making potions in Uldah.

Adding a 10 minute chocobo ride would:

A. Mean my computer would have to work even harder to render FFXIV at (mostly) max settings, so I'd have to turn down the settings any time I wanted to zip across the landscape.

B. Waste my time.

I think you misunderstand.. My point wasn't to remove, only restrict. Of course, city-to-city airships and chocobo's will soon come into play which serve as alternatives, how in any way or form was FFXI's system that bad it couldn't feature in this game? As a structure it was sound.. Multiple forms of transport > teleporting everywhere and anywhere at will.

Well in FFXI you really only played your main class and a crafting class; here the game is built to do 4-5 classes in a long sitting.

And yikes, the game does not need any more restrictions!

There's already a strict restriction to the aetherite system. It's called anima. No further restrictions should (or will) be allowed before traveling systems are implemented. That's pretty much for sure.

By the way, bumping your own threads is considered extremely rude across the board. If people consider your idea interesting, they will respond and bump it themselves as a consequence. If they don't, though luck.
