Need help with final crafting gear + materia

Ok, so far I have GSM, LTW, WVR and CUL at 50, and have the HQ gear sets for each. I'd like to know what kind of materia setups I should be looking at for gear to maximize HQ efficiency. Should I go control heavy, or throw in some CP and/or craftsmanship points? Am I going to need to overmeld things? Accessories to use?

Also a question about overmelding. Do your stats and gear have ANY impact whatsoever on your success chances for overmelding, or are those set values that only change with materia tier?

I capped out belt and jewelry, and used basic melds on the rest.

Offhand - CP3
Head/Hands - Control3(4)+Craft2 for one, Control3+Control2 for the other
Body - Craft3+Craft3
Legs/Feet - both Control3(4)+CP3

This gets you 347 Craftsmanship (all you really need, enough to attempt any recipe, 3x ingenuity-careful II will finish a 2 star), 340(343) Control, 348 CP.

2 stars are easy at this point without food once you get 50 ALC/CRP/WVR, 37 CUL and 15 GSM/BSM.


The success rate for overmelding can't be changed. Higher tier materia has lower rates, each overmeld has lower rate than the one before it on the same item, and don't trust the percentages. First overmeld is almost guaranteed, the rest expect to use at least 20 materia on.
