tanking mobs as warrior?

Hello. I have a ilevel 84 paladin already but very bored of play style. Wanting to do warrior mainly for daily dungeon runs paladin for coil and ct and primals only.

So my question. I was trying to read up on and couldn't find exact answer. How do I hold hate on mobs? I have seen skill rotations but none seem to create hate besides being in defiance. Will just the dmg alone be enough to hold hate? Rage of halone for example makes holding hate very easy for my paladin.

So to warriors out there what's your skill rotation you use say in wp or ak? Thanks so much to anyone who could help. I'm not 50 yet but just rather confused how this works.

There's other warriors out there that can say more than I.

I tend to see Tomahawk to lead off, sometimes Flash as a warrior runs through a pack of mobs, then turns around once they're clumped together and does Overpower two to three times. If Unchained and Berserk are up, these are sometimes used and enmity should not be an issue.

For single targets, I've observed two Butcher's Block combos before cycling through Storm's Eye and Storm's Path.

Couldn't tell you on where the Wrath should go. Unchained usually, then Inner Beast at will unless there's an unavoidable attack coming up. I haven't seen Steel Cyclone used that often.

Wars have the same enmity combo PLDs do. The diff is aoe. PLDs have flash. War have flash but is very weak. 2.1 gave war a enmity boost on Overpower. So on aoe you can flash and spam overpower. All this is done while in defiance.

PS- Starting with unchained and berserk help also lol

BB combo till you're comfortable with aggro on mobs then Storm's Path to reduce incoming damage and Storm's Eye to do more damage. You'll just be missing out the debuff from Rage of Halone compared to having to rotate Storm's Path but it's not like trash mobs even hit that hard and you get 20% extra healing built into Defiance now. Usually with a group of 3 mobs, I do 2 BB combo for safety then start rotating SE to kill them faster. SP is nicer to be use on boss every 2 BB if the boss hits hard for your gear. If not, rotate BB -> SP -> SE over and over. If you want to SR, gather mobs with Flash -> Steel Cyclone -> Infuriate -> Inner Beast -> Overpower.

The single target rotation when tanking without a PLD cotank (solo tanking or with a WAR cotank) is BB>SE>SP. The single target rotation when tanking with a PLD cotank (or a WAR cotank that doesn't know how to play OT) is BB>BB>SP. The without rotation is different from the with rotation because, while it generates less enmity, it has higher damage dealt and, with the 2.1 enmity changes, you should never need more than that unless you're running with another tank who feels like riding your ass. The OT rotation is SE>SP (maintain both debuffs with 100% uptime).

For AoE situations, it depends upon what my current Wrath situation is. If I've got 5 Wrath and Infuriate up, I'll throw out a Steel Cyclone>Infuriate>Steel Cyclone and just start the ST rotation while cycling through targets. If I've got 5 Wrath but no Infuriate, I'll throw out Steel Cyclone>Overpower>Overpower and then start the ST rotation while cycling through targets. If I've got Infuriate but no Wrath, Infuriate>Steel Cyclone>Overpower>Overpower and then into ST rotation cycling targets. If I've got no Wrath and no Infuriate, I'll throw out 4-5 Overpowers before going into ST rotation while cycling through targets.

The main reason that I use Steel Cyclone instead of simply Overpower spamming with Unchained is because of the TP cost. Steel Cyclone generates a metric crapload of enmity in a single application (not sure how big the enmity modifier on it is, but it feels like 5x or so since an SC>Infur>SC combo at the start has let me completely ignore a target for the entire fight and still keep aggro) and is basically free; Overpower generates more AoE enmity per second than Steel Cyclone w/ ST rotation, but it costs a shitton. If you use Overpower spam for AoE instead of Steel Cyclone, you can expect to have to just stand around at regular intervals recovering TP. Steel Cyclone lets you forgo that and just keep doing ST (which means generating Wrath stacks for future IB usage) because it generates *enough* AoE enmity.

Honestly, enmity on my warrior is much easier to get than on my Paladin. Especially AOE. I'll normally flash, Overpower, flash and then run through the Butcher's block combo while tabbing. Once I get to 5 stacks, if there are still a few mobs on me, I'll Steel Cyclone. I also sometimes throw in a flash mid combo (as it doesn't break the combo) or Overpower after the combo. Especially if the DPS are AOEing. If I know another pack is coming up, I'll also save 5 stacks of wraith so I can Steel Cyclone right away.

Warrior AOE = Overpower, Flash and Steel Cyclone.
Paladin AOE = Flash (CoS doesn't add enmity... Though I believe it definitely should.)

Single taget, as others have mentioned, Warriors get a threat combo just like Paladins. They also get a DPS buff combo and a debuff combo that makes the mob do 10% less damage.


Over all, Warriors have more to juggle and their mit is trickier to deal with, but they're a lot of fun. I definitely recommend trying it out.

Put simply: Overpower. Defiance gives enmity, and as a Warrior, you're able to deal rather impressive damage (use both together, you can hold enmity fairly well), which directly effects enmity. That being said, I usually start my pulls with Tomahawk, will bring all mobs to me in an oh-so-convenient cone, turn em around, Overpower twice or so. You can also Flash in between combos if need be. Wont mess up any of your rotation. But I normally never have Enmity issues as War. Remember, Berserk and Bloodbath (i think) helps with enmity

Nope, the single target rotation is SP>SE>SE. Literally only use Butcher's Block when you are about to lose agro. The difference in damage done is quite minor, but you get to heal yourself instead. Agro is a binary thing, you either have it or you don't. Having extra threat is useless.

Staying on the cusp of threat just so you can get a tiny heal every 20 seconds is pretty lame, and needless stress. When I provoke off another tank I use Kitru's rotation for some time and switch to Paikis's when tank swap is incoming, only I just alternate SP and SE, it's just easier and SP is the moreimportant buff to keep up anyway during lull phases where you have to switch off the main boss target and do other stuff. This is just so I don't Butcher's Block right as a provoke comes out.

Clean swaps are a big thing this patch in every single one of the Extreme Primals, and losing threat is often a wipe. If you could use Butcher's Block AT WILL, sure, SP>SE>SE all the time, w/e, but you can't, it's a combo. The trouble isn't DPS pulling aggro anymore, it's the other tank. Although, if all you do is use non-enmity-bonus combos while you're tanking, you're just giving back less proportional enmity to the other tank each time and forcing them to deal with the creeping DPS's enmity bars, which is kinda unfair too.

Obviously you would make sure you have a buffer. My point was that using Butcher's Block after you have your buffer seems wasteful.
