Ifrit EX as a SMN

Finally downed Titan EX this week (and got my healing earrings, woo!), and have been trying to tackle Ifrit EX. The WHM rotation I've got down, but I am having trouble keeping my pet alive as a SMN, and was wondering what other summoners do in this fight.

I am using Garuda-Egi, and she usually dies during the nail phase, sometimes during eruptions. I try and heel her during eruptions/plumes/slides, but not sure what to do during the nail phase. What do you guys do to keep your pet alive? Would using Ifrit-Egi make a difference?

How can Garuda die during nail phase oO ? It's when she takes like no damage.

Anyway, I put her right where we are when we enter in the fight (where you can watch the cinematic) and I just leave her there. She won't get it by any eruptions at the beginning since we run to the right side to avoid the eruptions. Eventually, she'll get it by some healers debuff or Ifrit's dashes but you can heal her whenever you have to move or when you can't attack ifrit.

I never saw her died on this fight, especially not during the nails. If you have trouble, you can still bring garuda to the middle when Ifrit does his ultimate so that she takes all the aoe heal and then put her back at her place.

Just cast Sustain occasionally as you notice her taking some damage. She'll never die in one big burst, it's always as a result of 3-4 sets of mechanics (eruptions, charges, infernos, whatever) with no healing in between.

I think she was getting hit by the healer's burst damage, because I had her on follow during that phase. I like your idea about keeping her at the beginning area...I'll definitely try that!

And as T0rin said, I'll try tossing her a Sustain every once in a while.

I keep garuda with the group for aoe heals and cast sustain after every plume, I also move her during the dashes.

Howl shouldn't affect the garuda. It doesn't hit(no knockback or damage) my fairy. If it's an all ranged party, place her behind ifrit and heel during charges. You could place her off to the side a little if you're worried about garuda eating eruptions.

Howl affects summoner pet ! My healers were playing ping pong with her when both of them had howl debuff :( (because of too much dps)

Well if that's the case don't place garuda on the edges. Keep garuda up ifrit's butt and sustain her after eruptions. That's weird though. My fairy gets hit by vulcan burst. Are you sure it's not that?

What is vulcan burst ? The ifrit's knock back ? It isn't it ^^
