What is it? I'm embarrassed to say I JUST noticed it today, and I've played since launch...
Was doing leves for Miner near Stone vigil and just happened to notice the enormous castle on the mountain, its quite a stunning view.

That's Ishgard. It's mentioned quite a few times in the main story
We expected it to be like, the FFXIV version of FFXI's Jeuno, but it never opened. It'll likely be the next city we get access to, considering Coerthas is already in the game. From there, we've got 4/6 of the modern city-states explored. Who knows where we'll head from there? Into Gyr Abania to take back Ala Mhigo? Into Dravania and the abandoned city of Sharlayan?
Thanks! I remember the name, but had no idea what they were referring to. I'm guilty of speed clicking through a lot of story... But now that I have a name to a place, I can look it up and read about it.
It really is quite a view to behold from the Stone vigil area :).
Now that I read about it, I do actually remember most of the story bits from the game revolving around it.
Could be an interesting place once we get in there :D. The dragon spies that infiltrated the other houses during the story could mean that even ishgard has been penetrated. And what with the Archbishop calling for citizens for aide and always dying sounds interesting.
I just hate locked out areas...
Remember Gilneas for most of Warcrafts story? That enormous gate drove me up the damn wall for the five years I played...
