SE Idea for increasing the lifespan of Gear.

First of all This will probably be long so sorry in advance. Second I love all the gear that the Dev comes up with... But it sucks that each gear set doesn't make it for more than a few months. Seems like a lot of hard work on the Devs to come up with 2-3 new gear sets every 3 or 4 months for new patches.

So how about a way to increase the longevity of Gear? Doesn't have to be like FFXI where some pieces of gear lasted for years. I don't know how the gear progression will go for future gear. Will each patch increase ilvl by 5 until we get 3.0? Or will SE bring in new gear with around the same few ilvls just with different stats?

I'm not sure how patches will work but we are at 2.1 so does that mean we have 9 more patches until we get 3.0? Or will we get it sooner? Pretty sure SE wont be adding in new gear that is 5ilvls higher each patch that would be crazy that would be like ilvl135 gear and we are still level 50.

So what plans do you have for gear progression for the future?

Got some ideas.. well some from FFXI. Before I start I'm not trying to get rid of any future gear sets.

This could work for current/future gear and not all gear, just the harder to obtain gear CoB/Relic/Dl/CT gear. Some may argue that its not hard to get but its time consuming and tedious. So how about a page from FFXI and make some gear +1?

We have new Tomes coming in 2.2 from what I've read and assume they will be for AF2. We have CoB Turn6+ coming will we get new Allagan gear sets? And when 2.3 comes will we be getting new CT gear sets? How about making +1 gear bump them to 5ilvls for ilvl90 gear and make ilvl80 ilvl90 and ilvl70 ilvl85?

Examples CoB turn6+ drops items to make current Allagan gear +1 and the same with CT gear. But they can add new items to Phil Tomes for like 1500 tomes needed to upgrade the gear or maybe new items to Myth tomes to upgrade for like 400 tomes per item.


I don't know what the plans for the future and gear are but I think increasing the lifespan of gear would be a good way to go. If there are plans for doing this which I'm sure there are,Would be nice to get some feed back to bring hope to the future.

The problem with that is it's still a numbers game. Power creep is still in full effect. Granted, Squee has kept the numbers small to try and prevent this, but once the level cap is bumped there will be stat inflation. The best thing they can do is the one thing they probably won't do, unfortunately: make gear retain its usefulness even in light of higher item level choices. Pre-Abyssea FFXI did this and it meant that even old content remained relevant and utilized. I don't think that Yoshida will do this, though.

I hope he does, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also maybe would be cool if we could do a quest to unlock materia slots on CoB/CT/Relic/DL gear.
