Summoner's Egi need redesign in both form and function

I'm not here to suggest we summon actually primals, rather change how our current Egis work. Currently we have 2 dps and one tank. One dps out shines the other so really, in 99% of time, we use Garuda.

DPS have 3 types of function they fall into; single target damage, AoE damage, and crowd control. I would like to see our 3 Egis also fall into these categories allow for better use.

Garuda seems the idea choice as single target mainly because of contagion. Aerial slash would need be change to some more suitable. Maybe razor plume that'll DoT the target.

Ifrit would be a good choice for AoE damage dealer. His abilities would need to be reworked to suit more AoE damage. Ideal you would use him in dungeon run trash mobs and bosses that have a lot of adds.

Titan would be a excellent candidate for crowd control. He would need to have enhance enmity for pulling mobs from party members. Also a bigger focus on binding that keeps them in place.

As for an issue that continues to pop up on the forums: Appearance. When the Summoner uses Spur, have it physically change the Egis appearance for the 20 sec duration. They would grow to the size of, say a Miqo'te, and the appearance would be closer to the actually primal. Ifrit and Titan would run on the ground while Garuda would still float above the ground.

The biggest Problem with Titan-Egi is to handle hate from more than one enemy!
When more enemies are on him his Life drops too fast, also against Bosses he is onehitted too often!
Titan-Egi in his current form is a joke... barely useful as secund Tank

There is no Final Fantasy that lest Summoners summon the boss Primals usually it is a weaker version of the actual Primal or summon. There is nothing wrong with Summoners summoning the primals. The Egi's and Pet system does need to be redesigned to make them more balanced like Ifrit they need to get rid of radiant shield and give him Radiant Plume and Eruption. They also should make the Pets more detailed and look like the primal.

I agree with you and the OP. I wish each summon filled a more specific role. I was a fan of ifrit egi since I unlocked him but once
I realized his damage and utility paled in comparison to Garuda I stopped using him. I personally would like Garuda to fill a personal
support role (Enhancing your dots / spell speed etc) while Ifrit fills the offensive role (Higher base damage than Garuda) while titan
plays the CC tank role you mentioned.

These ideas are great much better than seeing every summoner using garuda egi.

Titan Egi give him weight of the land and bombs
Garuda Egi make the razor plumes explode and give her three clockwise rotating summoned tornados for 30s

That is actually how most of the FF games work with summons, you would summon the actual Summon/Esper/Whatever but they would only do one special attack and then go away, essentially functioning like a powerful spell with cool visuals. In FF4 you gained new summons by beating them in battle and therefore gaining the right to call upon them. In later iterations like FF6 and 7, you used the essence of the summons trapped in crystallized form to call them forth on your side. Similar fictionalizations of how summons worked persisted throughout most of the series.
The summon's attacks that are used when you call them up may not seem as strong as when you had to fight them, but that is most likely more for balance than anything else.

However the concept of calling forth the actual summon, or Primal, as they are called in this game doesn't work fictionally as the Primals are supposed to be ever-present big bad guys bent on destruction that you stop for a time but keep popping back up, so calling them in on your side wouldn't make sense and hence the Egi's.

On a completely different note, yeah I agree that they Egi's could use some tweaking both mechanics and visuals-wise.

One can only hope SE will listen and do something to make Ifrit and Titan more viable. I love them both but because of Contagion and the fact that Garuda has ranged attack Summoners are forced to use her almost exclusively in a party setup.

I'd actually switch your answer for Ifrit and Garuda: Contagion-Bane is a favorite combo for summoner AoE, so play that up. Focus on that, buff up aerial slash and nerf wind blast.

Making Ifrit the ideal single target DPS machine also helps them hide the problem this game has with nonplayers reacquiring targets.
