It seems like there's maintenance every other day or so. Whatever happened to, I don't know, once or twice a week? While I understand the need for it, I just don't see why we have it so often. I don't get a lot of time to play, but it seems like 50% of the time I get to play there's maintenance. Why am I paying for a full subscription when I only get to play half the time?
If they would simply TEST eveything they want to implement beforehand, we wouldnt have to deal with maintenances everyday. Infact, we probably could have averted the blatant cheating and abuse of the first week that generated billions of gil in seconds and crippled the economy ever since.
I think the maintenance here is well managed and relatively short compared to other MMOs I have played.
You can't properly test everything before releasing it. You can't simulate the numbers that actually play a game. But they do the best they can. Then sometimes they have beta testing. Where they let a certain amount of people play the new content to see how it holds up with real people and to find what bugs they can find. Its not a simple case of testing something before releasing it.
Its a shame for the OP that the maintenance is on half the time he tries to play, especially seen as he doesn't have that much time to play. But I don't think their maintenance is that often. Certainly not every other day. You asked why not have it once or twice a week. Surely its not actually more than that ?
agree completly with previous poster as a beta tester in other games myself there are a ton of problems that arise when games or content patches go live that cant but simulated do to not thinking outside of the box or the occasional oops wasnt paying attention hey how did i end up in a wall events that are bound to happen just by sheer numbers and constent stress instead of complaining about the continued hotfixes how bout instead be happy square isnt like other companies that dont care about there game or there community they have made alot of mistakes but are continuing to try to work out issues while still trying to work on new content it is a hard ballence and does suck alot of resources and time be patient the game is still in its early phases and will continue to get better
also as a added note there are 2 types of scheduls i have seen companies use 1 day of the game being closed for anywhere from 4-8hrs while they work on the game or the game being down each day for an hour both systems work but both cause an inconvience to there players square doesnt try to do either they want you to play there game and they want you on to enjoy it so there doing fixes as proplems and solutions come up and you also have to remember there time zone difference doesnt always fit into most peoples scheduals but there doing what they can
Last time maintence effected me was when the patch came out and it was down for an entire day. Other than that, the maintences are at like 2am or so which really doesn't bother me.
Now if you're playing on a JP server then yea, you're going to get hit in the middle of the day generally. NA maintence happens when it'll effect the least people, which is why it's in the middle of the night. JP does the same, which is why it's during the day here, since it's their night.
Unless you're talking about server crashes and needing to be repaired, but that's a whole different thing.
JP maintence was jan 2nd, NA was jan 3rd (today at like 2am PST), Dec 26th which MAY or MAY NOT have kicked people (aka worlds not taken down), Dec 24th (started at 11pm PST), Dec 17th (all day for patch), 13th reg maintence (1am PST - 3am PST), and then before that it was pretty common but still in the early hours of the morning (1am-3am).
I'd rather take often 1am's than once a week for 6-8 hours.
