Did you know ?
That when you cancel your account, your game access is suspended immediately? Can't even play out the rest of your paid-for subscription. I thought that was interesting, and I can't think of another game that functioned this way.
As a sort-of aside : Japanese games confuse me as of late. So far I have played several eastern-developed MMOs and they have all taken an extremely haughty "we know what's best" stance toward their playerbase in many aspects. Is this a cultural difference? I have always heard that Japanese service culture is extremely polished but don't get that feeling from the MMOs I've played.
Edit - I actually cancelled the auto-renewal instead, because that statement intimidated me (which I'm sure it was meant to do). I do like the game, the crafting, the aesthetics. Will wait another 6 months (if I am MMO-homeless/ESO disappoints me) to see where this game has headed and see if it's more my "thing".

Yeah well, you're canceling your account, duh.
If you cancel your sub, you get to play it to the end.

I don't think I understand the significance of closing your account versus ending the subscription. Do they wipe your character and all info or something?

You can always reactivate your account without char wipe, should keep the remaining sub, too. Closing and reopening was a common tactic to combat some launch 3012 problems, playtime was not lost (minus the downtime).
