Tier 4 Materia rate?
I've been considering creating and spirit bonding iLvl 70 accessories to get some of the tier 4 Materia I need (no money but philo tomes are too easy to acquire)
What I want to know before going with this is what's the rate of acquisition of Tier 4 Materia from the accessories?
-
All of the iLv70 stuff I've seen converted has popped out T4 materia. That's not a huge sample size, but I'm pretty sure it's always T4.
Note: This info is from pre-2.1
Note2: You still have the chance of getting elemental materia
Note3: iLv70 stuff is kind of a pain in the butt to spiritbond, since it'll only gain spiritbond in CT + Coil.

As of 2.1, it seems that i49 accessories have a chance (I don't know how many % however) to give you Tier 4 Materia upon conversion.
Perhaps try spiritbonding i49 rings that has the stat you are looking for your Tier 4 Materia? For example, Spinel accessories seem to have a higher chance of Savage Aims, Ambers have higher chance of Vitality and Parry, etc. If you get Tier 3's that you don't need, you can sell them to perhaps raise some cash for your materia.

Well, I've bothered spiritbinding 44 items (22 crafting accessories, 22 Rubelite and Spinel accessories) since 2.1 and gotten 7 rank IV materia out of them (1 Craftsman's Cunning IV, 1 Craftsman's Command IV, 1 Savage Might IV, 2 Heaven's Eye IV, 2 Savage Aim IV).
Not a particularly convincing sample size, I know, but just contributing as best as I can. I also forgot noting what the ilvl of the converted item was, but I'm assuming that everything that guarantees Rank X Materia now has a chance to pop out a Rank X+1 Materia, because I've been getting the occasional Rank 2 Materia from <ilvl30 items and just got a Savage Aim III from a NQ Velveteen Sugarloaf Hat (ilvl32). :p
Though, still... I don't know what the OPs market looks like, but at least on Phoenix you can still easily buy 2 Rank IV Materia of most types by just selling the 9 Tomestone materials required for a single ilvl70 item. :/ Just seems inconvenient to me to bother spiritbonding, and saves you the frustration of getting something like Lightning IV. :p

I converted the lv 49 waist the leather-worker makes and it gave me a lv 4 command materia, I think it's called raptorskin merchants purse, you can spirit bond with that really fast

Can anybody confirm what Juniglee mentioned about Materia having a higher drop rate from jewelry with that stat already in it?
Aside from that, last night I made an entire set of HQ Amber jewelry, let's see how this goes

I don't know about higher, per se, but some things are exclusive to specific types of gear. Parry materia only comes out of tank gear, Skill Speed from DPS gear, and Spell Speed from mage gear. I don't think I've ever seen PIE come out of DPS gear, so I'm sure there's more. It wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that crit pops out of BRD gear more often, but I haven't tested it.

I converted a lv49 HQ spinel accessory into Quickarm IV the other day. So it's definitely possible.

As a gsm who has made multiple sets of jewelry for classes, I can say with 99% certainty that you will most often get a materia related to the stats of the item. Lots of parry and vitality from tank jewelry, lots of str and skill speed from dps, mind/pie/spell speed for healer. Occasionally get something weird, but for the most part you're going to get that type of materia.

What sucks is when you get stuck with elemental III or even IV -_-
