New Cure III Mechanic; Please Read!

I had this idea for a new mechanic to Cure III. I know it was just revised and all but this isn't so much a fix as it is how the spell works. Firstly; keep it all the same ie. cost, radius, range and cast time. However, instead of making it a targeting heal make it into a "true" radial heal. This idea came to me after doing a quest where you have to throw bombs on specified locations. After clicking the item you would get the circular radial display on the ground that would also display the range. What if you incorporated that into the spell?

Stage 1: Player clicks Cure III; Stage 2: the cast time begins to count down Stage 3: the player just clicks on the target location where they want the radial heal to take affect! The cast time holds until they click the spot to heal. Furthermore, it can be canceled out just like any other spell. By doing this we would be able to heal people without directly targeting them. This would prevent us from relying completely on the stacking tactic and give this spell more variety as well a new mechanic to play around with. The best part is since it's going to be the same exact spell it won't change anything balance wise either.

I would flat out love to have a heal like this and hopefully many others would come to love it to. Feel free to post any suggestions. I'm really hoping the developers read this!

This sounds like a healing version of shadow flare, which I could get behind on the times I use WHM, the only problem I could see is that you would need an animation on the target location prior to the spell going off or no one would know where to run to. Plus, you would need to make the Cure III cast even longer to give people time to find the effect to get close enough for a heal. That being said, I think the idea would probably work better as a heal over time effect as long as you stood in the effect (probably keep it active for ~15 seconds like Sacred Soil) but that would make it more in line with FFXI geomancer healing, wouldn't it?

The heal would stay the same. It wouldn't be a healing fountain. All it would do would start the cast timer and hold the cast until you are able to line-up a heal that is guaranteed to hit all who need it. You can choose to just activate and drop immediately or hold it until you either cancel it out or are able to drop it down in the proper place. Basically it takes the whole single targeting factor out of the heal entirely and makes it just a radial heal (hence my example with the bomb throwing quest sentence). In most cases it will take you 1-2sec to line it up with the ground radial display anyways so that's why I say clicking the ability starts the cast timer.

personally, I like the idea, to make it even better how about you activate it and the cast time starts a redicle appears and the holy animation starts, then instead of the ball of gleaming light slowly rising over your head and exploding it stays there or is absorbed by the WHM making a buff kinda like an aetherflow stack. Allowing the WHM to control where the ball will fly to with the redicle when the time is right to use Cure III. Kinda like almost a stance activating it with a cast time and allow the WHM to store the ball or "control" it for a short period before dispersing.

So you cast the spell and you get the ball -> if activating it again "with the charge stored == true -> redicle appears for placement.
If the ability is not charged -> Charge ability.

If it is charged and you place it the light ball reappears and flies to the targeted area with super speed and explodes with a cool looking heal type effect creating Cure III at that spot.

Yes this would mean that for X duration of the buff I could bank an almost instant heal - animation, that I cast and banked when I seen my overheal proc "if I could afford the global CD and cast time"

Maybe this new mechanic would be too much to implement... At least until they create a new type of healing class anyways.

The idea in theory is great, I like it, but it is still flawed.

Reason I say it is flawed is this:

The revision of Cure III with the patch was meant to make it more of a useful skill when proced. To me, on my WHM, the heal is still pretty iffy. Yeah, the cost is halved and it's auto-crit, a little bit wider radius, yet still a terrible heal. Why? Because most fights at end-game have every player in your party spread to the four winds. You may be able to hit 1-2 people with it.

Now for your idea: Dragging and dropping it like Flame Arrow, Shadow Flare, etc. wouldn't be a bad idea if it didn't limit the usage of the skill. In a heal intensive battle, you aren't going to waste the time to find where you need to drag and drop the heal, drop it and then now since you are 3-4 GCDs behind, your tank dies, raid wipes. I say they lower the proc chance but give it no cast time, auto-crit with a wide-radius so that you can tag more than a couple people with it.
