Overusage of Limit Break?

I'll start by saying I understand the point of using Limit Break and I agree it helps, especially if your party isn't as geared as you'd like.

I feel like it gets overused, though. We use it despite the fact it's completely possible to finish the battle without it.

Now, I understand people want the dungeon/run to be as quickly as possible, but I've been playing for about a month and a half now and I haven't ran into any group that wants to try and beat anything without it.

In my entire gaming "career" I've always enjoyed trying to beat challenges without the use of potions (I never played MMO's that required potion spam) and have always wanted to win with just skill/patience.

I like Limit Breaks, just wondering if there are any other players out there that would enjoy the challenge of playing without it. Even shouting for groups like this gets no results/childish insults.

meh i find myself only using to end a fight faster, not like we need to. If they just took it out it wouldnt be missed honestly. very bland in all honesty. all the DD ones are virtually the same just either aoe or single big deal, never used tank one, whm is just useless.

rather use it like they do in wp sr's, clears up packs of mobs very nicely and saves about a minute off the run

compared to using it to finish a boss thats on 5% when you have absolutely no chance of wiping, which saves you about 5 seconds, but somehow its become like a fatality from mortal kombat that you can only use when you've already won

the only exception is t4+t5 coil where people have found an actual use for it

as a melee dps i see what you are saying. i do enjoy a challenge. and for certain bosses it is completely just a timesaver. But i will say that correctly timed limit breaks can actually move a boss onto the next phase of its attacks completely skipping the previous phase. Take Psychflayer or whatever the first boss is called in AK, if you lb him at around 40% hp he will skip summoning a golem allowing you to dps that boss a little quicker. I agree i like a challenge as well. But the lb i feel i only HAVE to use on certain bosses at certain times. Yes i have beaten almost every boss without the use of LB because other people died/didnt know to use it. So it really is just a timesaver.

true but because of the new slow build ir you have more of the same job which is always 2 blm for turn 4....

Based on this logic should we also randomly pick some skills our jobs have to simply not use to make things more challenging? Next WP i run as tank ill avoid using Flash, or on healer ill only use stone skin and Medica2 nothing else. My point being we use the abilities given to us to do a job, Limit Break is one of those abilities. That being said its not like Limit Break is some game breaking ability that one shots boss mobs simply wraps up the fight with a nice big BANG YOUR DEAD!

p.s. the damage Limit Breaks also look hella cool to so that's a reason on its own =)

I never used any logic, I just implied that it's boring to use LB. It's essentially used to make things unnecessarily quicker the majority of the time. I also never said you shouldn't use it, and I'm still not suggesting you don't use it. Use it all you want, I'm just saying I don't want to and asking if there are other people out there like me who'd like to do it without LB, same as there are groups out there who do runs in challenging ways rather than the easiest way.

I'm also not suggesting they change LB or do anything to affect the people who WANT to use it, either. Not everyone wants everything to be as easy as possible. Some of us find enjoyment from challenges and handicaps make for great challenges (such as no limit break, or those Japanese player who ran Titan with exceptionally bad group-comps).

To everyone else, I agree that it CAN be useful. For instance, I was constantly given the job of LBing in Ifrit (and got yelled at a few times, too...) and I've heard plenty of people praising it in Coil, but I'd love to fight Titan HM without relying on LB to save about a minute of the fight because you're afraid your team won't survive that long. Using it on packs in WP is something I often do when speed running. Trash monsters are boring as all hell. They should make them interesting...

I find the opposite, apart from ifrit where the blm will use lb on nails, i dont see LB getting used much at all

Logic in this context is a particular method of reasoning. You did use logic, which was this: You enjoy imposing restrictions on yourself in games to make things more challenging, which you find more fun. Thus by not using limit breaks the game is more challenging and more fun.

I don't think Emilyee is disagreeing with you so much as asking, why limit breaks? There are dozens of abilities for each class, why make this thread particularly about limit breaks? And if not to encourage discussion or change to the system then what is your end goal?

Might I suggest making a thread on your server forum and asking if others share your view and if so, perhaps they'd like to party up with you sometime?

Sometimes we finish encounters and forget about the Limit Break all together. The other night I forgot to call it out on Caduceus, so we just carried on killing her without it.

Our first Turn 4 clear was without the use of Limit Break. The SMN was supposed to use it, but forgot. I was too busy healing to notice, but it made us all laugh at the end when the SMN admitted to forgetting to use it.
