Glitch with surplus display in UI

I've been idling in Ul'dah hoping to see the NPC related to the Seventh Umbral Age event. I haven't engaged in any fighting or crafting in at least a week and a half. I logged in around 8 AM this morning, and as I was making some macros, changing jobs and equipment several times, I noticed that the Next Rank value on my screen was in yellow print as if I had a surplus rank. I was pretty surprised by this, so I ran outside and killed a marmot while still on Thaumaturge to see if I was afflicted with surplus. When the fight was over, I got 5 skill points with no message indicating that I had lost any skill to surplus. Further, the coloring on my Next Rank number was back to white. I had /away set for most of the day, if that impacts anything. I'm going to stay idle on my Leatherworker 11 now and see if it comes up again.
