Is housing so expensive because...?

Do you all think that maybe housing is so expensive because they are afraid it would overload and crash the servers like it did at launch?

They obviously don't want many players to have housing for a very long time. The only thing I can think of is their game can't handle it because there are free to play games with much more affordable housing that is waaaaaay more customizable than xiv's housing will be.

So do you guys think the game will have a meltdown if everyone gets housing immediately on the higher population servers so that is the real reason housing is more expensive?

Nope. Its all about removing gil from the game.

I think I was trying to find some other reason for them making housing so out of reach. This will probably seal the deal on my FC friends not coming back to the game.

I even collected the garuda feather, titan heart, and ifrit horn to craft the housing furniture. I feel like a fool.

I'm fairly certain that part of the reason is to decrease the amount of people that can buy them to reduce server stress...
I know when they talked about personal housing in the past, part of the reason they decided it wasn't going to be available from the start was that they were afraid it would crash the instance servers.
Seems like its still questionable we'll even get it since it'll be easier on them if they can just shove in the 'private room' concept within FC-housing. :-/
(And the idea of losing your lots if you don't use them for a period... Yeah....)

It seems to be a recurring trend that part of their justification for not fixing certain things or for making questionable design-decisions is "Well, if we were to do that, it could push our hardware too far, so... yeah..."
And of course enhancing their data centers to the point they could handle something more than their base projections (if even that) would be far too prohibitive.... :-/

I think they are trying to balance the gil across all realms to open transfers everywhere.

There are also some Gil buffs mentioned in the patch notes (please, let me hope ^^)
