I never played FFXIV in its original incarnation. I just started it when A Realm Reborn launched. I've seen some references to legacy features that sound as though the original game came earlier in the story's timeline, yet I've seen other places that make it look as though a lot of the same content appears in both (albeit in a somewhat modified form). So now I'm rather confused as to what the relationship is between the two versions of the game. Is A Realm Reborn a remake or a sequel?
In a way, it's both. ARR's timeline takes place 5 years after the Calamity where Bahamut rained destruction on Eorzea.
As for similar content, all the job quests are pretty much EXACTLY the same as 1.0's story wise.
