USB devices stop working after launching ffxiv

Greetings!

Imagine you're in a Titan run. The other healer is down- it's all up to you. Suddenly- mouse/keyboard stop responding. PLUMES TO THE FACE. MUCH RAGE.

My problem is thus- My mouse and keyboard stop responding shortly after launching ffxiv.

If I unplug the device, then plug it back in, I can get a few seconds of response before it stops again.

Bad port, you may say- I thought so too. So I tried different ports. I tried ports on the front and back all to no avail. The issue persists.

This issue only presents itself **after** launching ffxiv.

Thoughts/suggestions?

your mouse/keyboard are using some specific driver?

What you're describing here really sounds like an interrupt flood, and that your input devices (probably USB based) are sharing the same IRQ as your videocard (this is far more common a problem than you'd think with demanding games).

Place to start is by updating chipset, video, audio, and USB drivers (usually that'll be sufficient). If it doesn't work, you may be able to disable other system devices in bios (such as serial, firewire, parallel port) -- sometimes this will cause the bios to shift around resource assignments (depends on the motherboard really).


In the case that you're using a PS2 mouse + keyboard (for either of them), switch to USB or try using a PS2 to USB converter [not using PS2 (at all) will cause most bioses to shut it off, this like the above suggestion can sometimes cause bios IRQ assignments to change]. You might also be able to move your videocard to another slot (different physical slot in the machine) to forcedly switch the IRQ it's assigned (should this be the cause).

EDIT: In bios, you may also try shutting off USB3 / USB2, to force everything in the system to USB1. If that "still" isn't enough, you try all the above, and your input devices still randomly disconnect / stop responding, then you may need to buy an addon USB controller (to stop using the motherboard's integrated).


This is also a good time to try a bios-update, if a newer one exists.

also check your BIOS for legacy support options (may not specifically say Legacy USB support, but may mention enabling USB keyboard/mouse/hard drive/etc. during startup). Some systems also give you options to designate IRQ assignments by the BIOS or the OS. This sometimes limits some of the higher numbers from being used and you wind up with a lot of thunking on IRQ 9 or something, which can cause some bottlenecking.

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved.
