Reason why healing/support is not rewarded (FATE)

Either this is a bug or is working as intended, but only offensive actions seem to get credit in FATEs.

If you heal, support or raise other people participating in the event you are actually hurting your rewards in a FATE because all that time saving others means you are less likely to do enough damage or to deliver enough items to receive Gold.

This was very noticeable leveling as a WHM because our dmg output is pretty meh to begin with, so either you focused on nuking and gathering items or you were very likely to end up with Silver or less, even if people were dying around you and proper support would've saved them.

As an ARC this is less of an issue, but can still hit you. Even if you are present for the entire duration of the event.

Or is it just me? Is this working as intended?


PS > Leveling GLA I've also noticed dmg (and not actually tanking) is what gives me credit in FATEs. So there's little reason to sacrifice damage output by tanking when you can just do as much dmg as possible and move on if another FATE pops on your map. actually Healing if your party others does get your credit if you're in the face I've been in parties were people just healed and the Hilton got credit for doing for the Fate so something must be bugged as you said but healing should an does give you credit for the fade but I presume or soon have to be a party for that.

Pop an Aero and Medica/Succor spam got me gold 95% of the time leveling my healing classes. On boss fates, though... I don't know, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

This is just my speculation, but it's probable the reason why SE did FATEs this way is because in FFXI when Campaign was first released, players discovered a simple exploit in healing during Campaign battles, in that all they had to do was simply sub BRD and then sing songs over and over again until the battle ended, without actually doing any actual healing of other players or fighting in the battle, and got lots of EXP and Allied Notes for it.

SE later quietly nerfed rewards for any kind of defensive participation in Campaign to put an end to this exploit in an update, in that healing spells indeed no longer gained any real EXP in Campaign, so it's highly likely they've carried this way of thinking into the design of FATEs (don't forget a lot of FFXIV's development team came from FFXI). So yeah, as usual, the old meme 'this is why we can't have nice things' springs to mind here - blame lazy and stupid players for spoiling it for everyone else.

Healing gives you credit for fates, I always dps on multiple mob ones, but on any NM like svara the most dps i ever do is throw an occasional aero/virus then heal the rest of the time and I get gold every time. This does include when I'm not even in a party. I really don't think the dps of aero alone would be enough to give me gold there.
