Question to Role-Players

Though i have little doubt in my mind that Square will never actually make good on their remarks about making a Role-play server (from back in Beta), or designating one of the existing servers the role-play server; I'm still going to pose a question.

If they ever did give us a role-play server, would you (Role-players or RP-friendly players) transfer over to it? And if you would, should it be something we should ask for as i'm certain that there would be enough people to fill a server adequately if given the chance.

Had a roll-playing server existed when I started I would have chosen it, but at this point I'm too invested in my current server/FC/parties/friends to consider switching.

There are two unofficial RP servers rolling right now..Balmung for Legacy and Gilgamesh for non-legacy.

I don't play on them, so not sure how active they are.

Plenty people in general on Balmung, and I have to say, I fairly regularly pick up some random /say conversations between various RPers. Mainly in the towns, but also in some of the camps.

Oh, i know there's unofficial RP servers, i'm on Gilgamesh myself. I was just asking about what the reaction would be to a square-enix supported RP server (The RP tag on server selection is also a good way to draw people who are interested in RP, but haven't already looked up the histories of the unofficial servers).

I'm also asking because although i see a lot of RP, there always seems to be a lot of griefers recently; boredom at end-game tends to give people time to be jerks to others having fun. :P

You'll find RP Griefers in any game, even if the servers are official RP servers.

You'll usually find far less on servers where the community expects RP, rather than a server where Non-RP is expected to be the norm; Which is what the unofficial servers are, the RP community may make a large presence, but at the end of the day it is still a non-RP server and griefing RP events isn't seen as harassment from conversations people have had with GM's where as griefing would usually be seen as harassment on an RP server.

But, this isn't in the point of the thread; I was just looking for answers on people's interests in having a company-supported RP server.

I would like it. But I believe I'm officially retired from rping. Too much ooc drama and my main rp friend quit. Still I personally love the ooc communities on rp servers.

I don't really need a RP server - I role-play well enough on my existing server (but then I've never been one for being in character 24/7 though, hence I usually avoid dedicated RP servers in MMOs, just so that it's up to me when I'm in character or not - I hate games which virtually enforce you to be in character at all times).

So it doesn't worry me too much if SE doesn't go ahead with adding an official RP server to the game - the game's RP community seem to have gotten along fine without it anyway. ;)

Not trying to argue anything, but i really have to wonder where people have played or what they've heard to make them think that RP servers are all in-character, all the time.

I don't think i've ever played a game that tried to enforce this, whether from the company or the players at large. Every RP server i've ever played on has mainly just been a tag that basically said "Role-players should gather here", and then everyone did their thing whether it was Heavy-RP groups or Light-RP groups.
*You'd always have the RP extremists that tend to get pissy if someone isn't RP'ing their way, but those guys usually quiet down when they realize people won't be bullied to do things their way.

I dunno if i've been lucky, or if others unlucky...
