Bad Speculation - How do you get DRK from GLA?

I keep hearing people try to draw connections between Gladiator, and a possible Dark Knight job. I just don't see it. I hear people talk like it's fact waiting to happen, and have never found anywhere it suggesting it.

Frankly, I don't see how Gladiator could ever be anything but a Paladin without a major overhaul of it's abilities to make them more useful to another class. (Which is probably why the only job using GLA abilities is WAR.


Now Marauder is just begging to do damage, it has abilities that involve gaining health when attacking mobs (Bloodbath), draining mobs(Mercy Strike), damage spikes (Vengeance). It seems obvious that if the choice was bringing Dark Knight, you'd attach it to Warrior. A Axe is handled in near identical ways as a Scythe.

I don't think there's any concrete evidence of any job being set... so far as I know, but would love to see a link to the contrary if anything is factual.

For that matter... why do people keep trying to make Musketeer job, and then merge it with Puppetmaster? Not sure why people have drawn that connection... but hopefully it's just another rumor being spread that holds no water.

In FF4... Dark Knight and Paladin both were Sword and Shield...
Also, in FF10-2, Dark Knight was a blood tank, hmmm, what else, haha.

I agree. Marauder would make much more sense, and seems more likely.
Even lancer would be more likely than a Gladiator imo.

Most likely they will make a brand new class as Yoshida said he sees DRK using 2 handed swords. However he also made the comparison that if they were to say use a job like gladiator and he actually used glad in the comparison, that they would change certain class skills like they did with arcanist to make the new job better fit the role with the soul crystal equipped.

Also dark knights dont use axes, theyd probably save mrd dps class for classes from ff that actually use axes such as viking and berzerker.

Yes, Cecil was DRK, and then turned PLD. But when you look at the abilities, they made NO sense at all for DRK. Unless they opt to make DRK a tank (god forbid) Gladiator seems a dead end as far as abilities go.

in FFXI DRK was a heavy armor wearing damage dealer, who's abilities consisted largely of using HP to increase damage, increasing attack at the expense of defense, and was kinda like Marauder + Lancer in this game. They used 2 handed scythes and greatsword.... and I think they'd disappoint ALOT of people if they didn't do something similar.

*Edit - Having a hell of a time trying to find Dark Knight Cecil with a Shield...... I'm fairly certain it doesn't exist.

but the Axe model could be changed to Scythe without changing anything but the animations. Just saying, Axe is more like a DRK weapon.

Only scythes I see in game are used by Demons in AK.

Botanists use scythes though :x

DRK uses Great Sword as well

Well there was the fact that when jobs were originally introduced Yoshi-P explicitly stated something to the effect of they were thinking of making DRK a job from GLA.

Also, both are (or have been) sword-wielding magic users.

There's also nothing stopping them retconning GLA's skillset.

Sure, they could... or they could just use Marauder's and not have to change much of anything.
