There is a one time item restore policy. I would save it for something else.
You lose the materials on disconnect so people can not force dc if a synth is going south.
While it's understandable as a quickly implemented countermeasure to prevent abuse, calling a disconnection a 'failure' is certainly not the most graceful way to handle it. The amount of rage that'll exist will become literally EPIC if materials used in synthesis (in the future) are RARE drops from once a week enterable instances.
I'd really like to see crafting progress / state be stored and or to persist through reconnections to the game. Sure, it's work to build such a system, but I'm pretty sure the crafting community would praise SE for removing crafting-risks that are outside a player's control (and outside of the game's mechanics too).

They will make it so you are still in the synth process after a d/c, but currently its like stated above a one time thing.
