A fatal DirectX error has occured.(10000000)

Up until recently I have been playing FFXIV flawlessly on my laptop with the graphics settings on High. The only thing I can think of that has changed is that I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

All of the sudden the game has started giving me a "A fatal DirectX error has occurred.(10000000)" error message when I click "Play" in the launcher after logging in.

System specs for my Toshiba Satellite P850 are:

Intel i7 processor
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M (2GB)
1 TB hard drive

My gpu drivers are completely up to date, and I have tried reinstalling DirectX as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
