I decided to buy AH 48-50 gear so I wouldn't feel like I would be a hassle as a dps.
Was that a decently smart thing to do? Normally it is in all the MMO's I play(which is a lot btw).

It's ok, you will replace it soon, but you can spiritbond it and turn it into the materias.
probably a waste since you can get much better gear doing wanderer's palace and amdapor keep.

You did what???
Maw Haw
Lulz
Nub, doormat, jeez, how fail!
No, serious, it's pixels. If you like the gear, could afford it? m'eh, happy slaughtering.
If the armor looks nice, keep it for looks.
Buy the best gear you can till it can be replaced. Turn said gear into materia and you could make your money back :)
Much rather have people like you than someone come into Titan HM with level 25 ACCs because "none have dropped in WP"
Well, if you've been doing your Job quests the only pieces you really need to worry about for the time being is your body piece, weapon, shield (if a class/Job that can use one, ala GLA/PLD), and accessories.
The first level 45 quest gives you your first four pieces of Artifact Armour for that Job (hands, feet, legs and head), which is arguably the best set you can get at that point in the game. You don't get the body piece til the final (level 50) Job quest though, so you'll have to substitute it for a while with something else.
It's a free set of 'blue' gear though, so it's technically better than anything crafted or sold at a normal npc shop. Plus you'll actually look like that traditional Job as well so if you're an old-school FF like I am that's worth it alone. ;)
what a AH?
