Roles

Hi,

I am new to the game and new to getting techincal with MMORPG's as I only ever play free ones normally.

I am a conjurer and I didn't really know what I was generally choosing at the beginning of the game, i've done some googleing and I would prefer to be an arcanist to then become a summoner.

Can I change now? i'm level 6, how would I change? I've seen that you can change classes etc by changing your armour and weapons or something.

Also when it says you need a level 30 arcanist and level 15 Thaumaturge to become a summoner is that two different characters? or the same character with those roles levelled?

Oh. I think I need to be level 10 and do a class quest.

I thought it was a combat role and the class was disciple of magic.

Hey dude.

I think you need to finish your level 10 conjurer quest and then you'll be able to switch classes.

You will need 30 arcanist and 15 thaumaturge on your character Maze Magic to open the summoner.

Deltra is right, you complete Lv10 of your CNJ, then you can join other guilds...
You might have to wait tho, as CNJ is Gridania, and Archanist is Lima....and I don't think you can get there on foot, so you might even have to wait for your Lv15 story quest (won't give you a spoiler), so you can get to the other cities :)

Ok sweet, yeah I read about the lvl 15 quest as well with an airship or something, i'll just keep hacking away at things and doing quests. It seems google isn't your friend for this game as everything I want to do ends up being at a certain level after doing a certain quest so might as well go with the flow lol

Same character. Once you've done your Arcanist lvl 30 class quest, you will get access to another quest that requires you to be both Arcanist 30 and Thaumaturge 15 on the same character to undertake. That quest will let you change your Arcanist into a Summoner by equipping a special Stone.

Conjurer isnt bad to level with, and you will have much more ease finding groups for dungeons later on as a healer than DPS.

I made a mistake and chose Conjurer when I really should of selected Thaumataurge (sp?!?) but went with it and hey, its not bad at all and with FFXIV you can still do the other classes... hell its a good idea to do some of them to level 10 to get some cross class skills, and if you prefer another class you simply need remember to do that new classes class quests and carry on with the main story line when your new class is at the appropriate level.

Just to let you know though, its not really worth trying to level multiple classes to 50 before leveling 1 class to 50 as you lose out on the bonus exp gain when you have a level 50 class and are leveling other classes... it easier to level other classes up when you have a level 50 class, from what I understand.

Plus you get to ride a unicorn mount because you chose Conjurer from the beginning. XD Highlight!

Exactly what others have said. You may want to work up other classes anyhow as you do get cross ability skills.

Not to derail the thread but I am also new and have a similar question. I just finished the level 10 gladiator class quest and am curious about joining other guilds. Can I choose to go down a armourer/paladin path or am I limited to one only? A nice detailed explanation would help quite a bit as I am finding info on such matters scarce.
