Calling it, next DPS Melee class: Soldier

I know we probably are going to see a two handed sword wielding class in the future to make a spot for DRK as the scythe is already taken by the Bostonist. So I was thinking after having just looked over at the request for a FF-VII crossover fate and it hit me; a solder in FF-VII uses very large great swords.

Just calling the class a Soldier would make a ton of sense and draw in a lot of old fans to the class right off the bat. No I don't think they will get wield super human abilities like the the FF-VII series, but simply another melee damage deal class that uses large two handed swords (Great Swords), that would later get the Dark Knight job (perhaps a-kin to Sephiroth).

So this is just my little prediction, just thought I would toss my idea out there and see if it stuck so I could say "I told you so" when it happened, and hope everyone forgot this thread by the time the job/class for DRK comes around and the class not call called Soldier.

So what do you think? Am I on something or totally insane/FF7 fanboy?

I don't really see it, base concept doesn't seem to tread a lot of new ground over what we have (I'm not saying you can't make it unique, I'm just saying that another heavily armored fighter with a big two handed weapons is likely going to overlap more conceptually and thematically than something like a fencer or thief would).

I always thought the easiest way to make the Dark Knight would be an offensive job for marauder (thaumaturge secondary lancer tertiary?). "Marauder" even sounds dark-knightish.

You simply make the lvl30 weapon from the job quest award a weapon that mrd can use.

Engineer. Cid will be the guy who teaches you your job abilities.

If FF-T is correct, this will be the Musketeer class's Job.

What was the class that the brother/sister in fft had? They were dark skinned and had a staff iirc? The one you could play had some interesting skills. Anyone know wth I'm talking about.

Rafa and Malak. they are casters afaik. we can have chemist, potions today are meh.. long cd and short duration pots. or we can have engineer. thief is also a good candidate. there is time mage, samurai, ninja, dancer. etc

RDM and BLU ... nuff said ! Yes I'm bitter over this :P

This is my dream:

Every class gets 2 jobs, just like arch...

So pugilist: Monk (dps) Ninja (tank)
Lancer: DRG (dps ) something...
Gladiator: PLD (tank) RDM (support)
Marauder: WAR (tank) DKN (dps)

The subclasses needed will change. for the second job...

Anyone care to contribute for the rest?

Side comment: Any game without a 2h sword is just not complete... especialy in the FF universe, where 2h swords are so protagonist...
