A sign that I should just stop playing this game?

Since playing this game I've always felt it was important to help out other players, and managed to always put their needs before mine. And now I've sort of created this image where everyone just "expects" me to help, even at the cost of my own time. And at first, I didn't mind, I enjoy helping others and building friendships with those around me. I love seeing others happy, and how excited they are when they get their first relic or when a piece of allagan gear drops that they really wanted. It's what I joined MMOs for. Even if I'm not on often, it's one of the biggest attractions with playing in a community.

But it feels as if whenever it comes to me, my "wants" they are thrown by the wayside by everyone, including the very ones I strive to help. But I mean, it's a game; I shouldn't let things like this bother me. The game is intended for fun, not to feel bitter or jaded. I almost feel sort of juvenile for reacting this way.

Though, lately, I've been finding it increasingly difficult to ignore it, and it almost hurts my feelings that everything I do for everyone is seemingly swept under the rug. Perhaps I expected the community to be a little different, and maybe that means I'm naive. I don't even know.

What I'm getting at is, when a game begins affecting how you feel in real life that maybe the best choice is to stop playing. That it's a red flag that the game isn't serving the purpose it was originally intended to.

Am I the only one who's felt this way?

You just gotta learn to say no. It's not that hard really and people will learn to have a more realistic expectation of you.

You should play what you really want. If they ignored what you wanted. I'd say theyre not worth your time. Unless I misunderstood you? Sorry (English isnt my first language x.x)

But hey, you could always try take a break from game and come back being feel refresh.

edit2: If you helped a bit too much, people usually demanding more helping, make thing less fun for yourself. Gotta look at where line to stop that :x

I have to say there are not many people like you and I applaud that but don't let selfish people deter you from the game unless you're totally not enjoying it anymore. I'm the same way but I really don't expect anything in return. If they are good people that you're helping out, they will always return in kind. My only advice is to find like minded individuals and distance yourself from those selfish people, it'll just make you more sad if you keep on helping them.

I help a lot of people too, but I tell them to do it themselves from time to time.

I am sorry your hard work goes unappreciated. When i help ppl i kinda go in knowing it prolly won't be reciprocal then i don't feel disappointed.

I might come off as ignorant cause I didn't read the thread but posting this thread is a sign to stop playing the game but not completely. Take a break, learn to play/do things for yourself and not others. It's okay to help others but don't always expect good things to happen. I mean look at Jesus. He literally died for people's sins. I mean if he was to use his power for fun and such, his descendants might have been pretty rich and living off the money he made from free whine and bread.

Yeah, I guess that's a good mindset. I guess when I've played other MMOs, I just really enjoyed the community where it felt like everyone was looking out for each other. I thought by helping others, maybe it will encourage them to help others as well. It's that experience that originally drew me into MMOs. The social aspect. I guess I just didn't expect it to turn out this way.
