I just transferred to the Leviathan server and it's forcing me to change my name, but I checked for other users with that name and I'm the only one that was listed there:

So after giving up, I decided to try and change it to my backup name, (which isn't taken by anyone in this server:

and then apparently, it's taken too...
So... What's up?
Maybe an old character that doesn't exist anymore. If that's the case the name is probably locked to avoid issues.

3.5 Naming Right. You may not use any name or other intellectual property belonging to Square Enix or any other third party in your use of the Game (for example, naming a character after a celebrity, company, product, or superhero).
The game doesn't appear to have a particularly large database of names that are automatically prohibited (http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest..._tribe=&order= as an example), but once a copyright violation has been reported they do have to take action in order to protect themselves from possible legal action by the copyright holder.
It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved. If this does continue to be a concern, please create another thread to further discuss resolutions or contact the Support Center at support.na.square-enix.com for assistance.
