Creating New Character
So very newbie question ,lol
I was just wondering the other that that instead of doing what i am now
(leveling every class, doh, etc.) if i can perhaps just create a new character to use?
I have the 180 day subscription and on login it shows i can have i guess 8 characters.
Now will the new character be in a different world or can be in the same.
Like for instance currently i am on Phoenix.
I sort of want a female Black Mage character with the Lighting content when it arrives :)

If you have a Standard Subscription (doesn't matter how many days), you can make 8 characters per world. Entry Sub is 8 total, 1 per world.
-
entry is also on a monthly basis, standard is 30, 90, or 180 so since he has 180 days, he's already standard so yes, those are 8 characters per server 40 per account

Ah thanks for the replies. I was just worried that if a second character can be on the same server that it would not save over top your first character because that would be annoying.

You can put up to 8 characters on the same server if you get the bigger subscription option (which it defaults to). The only disadvantage being you will get no EXP bonuses on any classes you level on that alt. The game is designed that you can level one character through the game and the progression of all alternate classes will be buffed up by how high your primary class is. With a level 50 character, you can get your alt classes into the 20s in virtually no time at all.
With multiple characters per server, you lose that bonus. To each their own.

Ok good not note, i will simply continue on like i have leveling up each class
Thanks for the reply

If your first character began as a gladiator and you've already seen the Ul'dah content, it might be worth starting your next alt as an archer, conjurer, or lancer to see the Gridanian content, or as an arcanist or marauder to see the Limsa Lominsa content. Then once you reach the envoy quest to go to other areas, switch her over to thaumaturge. (Archer you'd need to get to 15 anyway for black mage, so if you go with that you'd simply be doing your secondary class first and then your primary one.)
If you're planning on having your characters coordinate with each other for things like crafting, where you'd be passing items back and forth, you should be aware that you can't do so directly. You can only mail items to characters on your friend list, and you cannot friend your own alts as they can't be online at the same time. There are workarounds if you have a friend who can pass items to your alt for you, or if both your alts join a FC that lets you use the FC chest to pass items between them, but it's more awkward than in most games.

Oh Yes i have pretty much mapped the entire world and am leveling all classes and jobs, only ones i do not have are some of the DOL jobs like culinarian and fisher
I got my Archer up to 13 yesterday and my Thaumaturge is around 17
Thinking i will still finish off the main story as PLD
Sounds like it's just easier to continue like i have been doing.
Thanks for the info Niwashi

I guess you could have 2 accounts and 2 box if you had a good enough computer, to pass things between alts.

Another thing to consider is that if you level all your classes on one character, you will not be able to gear them all out to their full potential when you are level 50, because of how the currency you earn in dungeons is throttled with a weekly cap.
If you have your level 50 classes on different characters though, you can gear them all up at the same time - Given that you have enough time on your hands during the week, since the cap is per character.
More of a "hardcore" consideration though I guess, since it indeed takes a lot of time to run all the dungeons to take advantage of this.
