First, I'd love some text commands for player search, like most other mmos have. Player search is a bulky interface for a simple search.
/sea all PLD 50, for example.
Second, more importantly, can we please have comment search? It would make pugging things like Chimera and Hydra significantly easier if players could comment, head out, and others looking for a healer could search scholars and white mages for players with "Hydra" in their comment.
Also an option to search by FC, please. Luckily I'm a trained stalker, but for those that aren't, it's tricky business.

I agree that the current search info (or comment) isn't terribly useful, but as we've seen demonstrated in the most recent live producer letter, they are already working on an LFG system for patch 2.1.
This feature exists.
/search PLD 50 would return all the 50 PLDs online on your server
/search lookingforparty PLD 50 would return all the 50 PLDs flagged up on your server
