Defense Stat Question

Fellow Tanks,

Currently my FC is in turn 4 of coil, today we noticed that seemingly I was taking more damage than our other pally yet the only difference "stat" wise was he has 9 more points of defense. I really don't think the 9 points make that huge of a difference, however does damage reduction come in tiers? ex. from 1-100 you get a 10% reduction from 101-200 you get 14% reduction something along those lines?

If that's the case it makes sense b/c he may of broken into another tier, if that's not the case i'll continue to hit my head on the desk trying to figure out how 9 pts is so huge hehe. Thank you all

Maybe forgot Shield Oath? Stupid idea I know. Just an Idea but he maybe at the next tier. Gear almost the same also?

Well it all depends, there are a lot of factors on turn 4 which could cause variances.

Phase 1 = Spiders

Phase 2 = 2 soldiers 2 knights. If the raid is dpsing the Soldier on the other tank, when its stone skin breaks it will not be able to attack you for a bit which ultimately causes him to take less damage. He could also be kiting a little, or popping a short cool down which helps a little and has a very low reuse time.

Phase 3 = 1 dreadnaught 4 spiders ( which get eaten ) Only one of you is tanking. However if it appears you take more damage tanking this mob then the OT it could have to do with you not popping cool downs, or virus not being on the dread.

Phase 4 = 2 rooks, 4-5 spiders. If you are both tanking a rook you are both taking equal damage, however if you aoe threat rotation is better than the other tanks then you will be tanking more spiders than he is which means you are taking more damage because he is doing less.

I highly doubt that Defense is divided into tiers because, seriously, that would just be wonky as hell.

Someone did some math that found that Defense is actually a stat that becomes more valuable the more of it you have so that the smaller incremental gains you get going from 70>90 gear compared to 60>70 actually end up meaning more. Essentially, Defense doesn't have linear growth but rather exponential growth. As such, that 9 Defense could actually mean a *lot*. I'm kind of curious how you managed the same parry rating, STR, DEX, and shield block rate/value while still having a 9 point Defense discrepancy. Normally, when you have a discrepancy on something based entirely upon i-level like Defense, the secondary stats follow suit.
