Player Elemental Resistance

I've been searching for information regarding the effects of elemental resistance on players. In particular how much does elemental resistance negate damage (i.e. 1 point of fire resistance = ??? damage negated from a fire attack). I could not find any info on this forum or any of the others.

From what I understand elemental spells that players will always do the same dmg to mobs regardless of the element used, as long as the potency is equal. We have elemental resistance on our characters, a few items have resistance, there is elemental resistance materia, and there are elemental warding potions. But do they actually do anything or are they fluff numbers?

I'm planning on attempting some crude experiments using crafted gear with materia and elemental ward potions. Any information or direction about this would be appreciated. If there is an actual difference I am hoping to make at least a foundation for some theory-craft. Especially since the new Primals are coming...

There was a group of people melding resistance materia for Coil but I don't recall seeing their results anywhere.

I only tested twice using a wind potion on easy mode garuda and while it didn't give a big result I still had the most HP left in the group as a SMN (I'd say roughly 5% more by eyeballing HP bars). The potions only give 20ish resistance for 15 seconds and have a recast of 5min (-30sec for HQ) iirc so they're not entirely worth it on their own. If you could stack a lot with materia I could see taking considerably less damage from some attacks but then the tradeoff is doing less damage which will mean taking more attacks in the end. It kind of balances out/negates itself I guess in that light.

Would be interesting to see some actual numbers if you go through with it though (or share if you find anything)!

Yeah I had a friend make some HQ Fire Ward Hi-Potions (+44 resistance I think and 15 sec duration) for me and I was going to run it through some HM Ifrit fights to see the results. Then move on to the melding from there, if you penta meld something (say accessories) it should be a considerable boost.

I don't think the pots will be useful for much beyond blocking the massive AoE attacks from bosses (like Titan's Earthen Fury). But hey if it helps it helps!
