Coils T2: Logic vs. Habit

In a recent coil turn 2 fight I came accross this:

The DPS setup was: 2 BRDs, BLM + SMN

after wiping a few times while barely getting to the 50% stage while using the left path of nodes i suggested this:

our DPS are casters seen as the BRDs are silencing and cannot rotate properly. if we take the right path we will debuff BRDs and Melee DPS while allowing the tanks and casters full damage (also taking away the splash aoe) going left will debuff our only true DPS.

We went the right path and DPS went much faster but people kept complaining "this is not how we usually do it.." "the left path is easier" blah blah blah etc etc etc

Am I completely unjustified in my assumption that the path you take is situational?

Or are video guides and habit just causing these clashes?

Rule of thumb, video guides are always correct for them.

Heck, I bet most of them don't even know why they're going to that path and just YOLO it all the way.

Right for Mages , left for melee u are correct . For pug group left path be little easier , especially for Paladins - because u are removing Firestream . I can be wrong ofc , but i thing ur group wiped because allagan rot , this is only real issue in fight , and if party or fresh or PUG , ppl's usually start too panic in battle and dont pass it correctly .

All my successful coil turn 2 runs where on the right path. It's just less messy for everyone. If your tanks can dodge firestream that is.

our static has the exact same setup as OP, 2 PLD, 2 WHM, 2 BRD, SMN, BLM. We take the right path, firestream isn't a big issue for melees, it can be dodged easily if you are fighting at maximum melee range.

We also take the right path, with our setup of WHM, SCH, PLD, PLD, DRG, BLM, BLM, BRD.

I have the silence rotation dealt with by the paladins, with the bard on pickup duty should either of them have an issue. Positioning is key to this fight, and as you are not dealing with the "pacman" attack, you may want to consider not cramming ADS in a corner. Just a little hint there.
