Log-to-Item Discrepancy on Elm Velocity Bow

When the game tries to transclude the Elm Velocity Bow's name, what it actually renders is Ash Velocity Bow. The item itself is the elm. In the inventory it shows the elm. However, any attempts to refer to it mistakenly list it as the Ash.

This issue has been going on for some time, but it's never been pinned down properly as being what it is. The following threads have all tried unsuccessfully to report this issue.

After going through my crafting log, this problem may be a little deeper than I imagined. I don't have any of the items on me to see if it's a log discrepancy, but the Elm Velocity Bow's ingredients are an Ash Shortbow with an Ash Branch and the Wrapped Elm Longbow is made with a Wrapped Maple Bow and Ash Branches... something isn't right, here.

Sounds like this is more of a long-standing issue (since the 1.0 days) where the names of crafted items are finalized before their recipes are finalized, leading to final item names not matching their ingredients.

I just encountered this same issue, as if the item has two different names. My Archer used the Elm Velocity Bow until the level 25 class quest bow reward. When I went to create materia, the Materia Creation window listed it as Ash Velocity Bow. The item detail window showed it correctly as Elm Velocity Bow, though. The Armoury Chest mouseover "tool tip" text showed it correctly as well.

After I created the materia, the success message in the log also had the incorrect name (ash velocity bow).

I'm just going to keep this thread going because I don't believe it's all technically under the Localization umbrella, but is a mixture of LOC issues and actual synthesis programming issues. One of the Plumed Yew Crook's (Lv.30) ingredients is a Walnut Cane (Lv.29). I think the recipe means to call for the regular ol' Yew Crook (Lv.24).

Either a lot of stuff got jumbled around in the Carpentry department, or Gridania is up to some pretty wiggy wood alchemy...

That'd make for a pretty cool magic show, wouldn't it?

I can confirm that the items and corresponding recipes mentioned in this thread should all appear far more plausible post 2.1. Of course, the fact that you can craft high-quality weaponry in less than a minute shall still defy all rational explanation.
