Pets (Not Just Minions) for Characters

I'm loving the game, but I was wondering if I could put in a friendly suggestion/request for pets (particularly for archers, but obviously including other classes would be great too). My main character is an archer and I was wanting a pet that would fight alongside her that I could both name and level with her. I realize some classes have minions but they don't usually fight with the character (with the exception of carbuncles and chocobos, but as I understand it those are for particular classes) and NONE of them are officially named. In another game such as this I was able to "tame" wild creatures so long as they were of a lower level than me so that I could withstand their attacks until the "taming" action was completed. I would love it if this game could have that feature as well, especially with the wide range of creatures these worlds have -- it would be another great element that allows each player to have a unique and fulfilling gameplay.

You're thinking on the lines of a Beastmaster, which is known in the Final Fantasy world. There's a maybe in your request. But I also see the companion list expanding into more options than just a chocobo. We might all get a plethora of combat pets, or the plethora of pets is restricted to future professions that can properly train creatures.

Yes, I heard about the Beastmaster aspect, but I was told that was more of a temporary thing & I'm referring to a permanent one (such as our company chocobo is a permanent animal that we summon/dismiss at will, for example). And I also meant an ability to tame any animal we choose from our wanderings -- the options you spoke about that will possibly expand to things other than just chocobos entail going to someone and choosing from a limited list of options what creatures we want. I would like to be able to travel anywhere and happen along a wolf or bat-like thing and tame them on the spot and have them become a permanent pet that can grow (level) with the character and have its own name that I choose and type into the game (so that its name is displayed above its head just as my character's name is displayed above hers). The fact that you said there's a "maybe" though gives me hope because it means at least one other person found interest in having this ability as well. :)

You can name your Chocobo, everyone gets one at level 20-odd and everyone gets the ability for it to fight with you at level 30-odd (from a quest called "My Feisty Chocobo"). I'm sure it would be nice to have other pets to fight with you, but it would make Arcanists/Summoners/Scholars so over powered if they could have a pet, chocobo and their summon, they'd be a walking 4 man team.
Also the Chocobo's name does appear above it's head when you summon it to fight with you and it levels up (granted incredibly slowly).
What you seem to be describing is basically a Hunter from WoW and I'm pretty sure SE wouldn't be able to get away with making a class basically EXACTLY the same as the Hunter from WoW.

In this universe that is called beastmaster and i can wait for it to be released. Archer are point and shoot class that like to sing here and there.

I know our company chocobos can be named (I used them as an example) and that they eventually fight -- although I actually don't like that idea, since I like mounts and minions/pets to be separate -- so what I was talking about WAS like what WoW had with the hunters. WoW gave three pets with the limit that only one could be summoned at a time, SE doesn't have to do the same thing. They could give us more or they can give us only one. Hell, I'll be just fine and dandy with the one. :) And to address the issues of those classes you listed (Arcanists/Summoners/Scholars) having too much power/companions, they could easily fix the problem by only giving the ability to the classes that don't have those options -- such as Archers, Pugilists, etc. :) There's a lot of differences between the two games so I hope that with restrictions such as the examples I gave it wouldn't be a copyright issue. I still hope they consider giving permanent, leveling pets. :)
