So I just got this game last week and I'm really enjoying two characters I'm leveling slowly but I was questing with my Thaumaturge and I was fighting some goblins that throw these bombs or something and I noticed ...
I'd get a red "GET OUT OF Here" on the ground and I move (Interupting my spell) but I still got hit by the damage... it almost seemed to me like the game and my PC were out of sync with my X-Y-Z co-ordinates ... has anyone else noticed this?
Yeah. lots of people have noticed this.
Couple things. First of all, regardless of any other issues you may or may not have with latency etc., you need to be out of the red before the cast bar finishes. Not before the red disappears, not before the ability animation happens. Basically, you really can't afford to wait at all. See red, get out now.
Second, something that's been suggested to help is to turn off floating text and to not limit your FPS. There isn't a ton of anecdotal evidence about them either way, but those settings do seem to have helped some people.
Also, do keep in mind these will show up for almost all area attacks, regardless of whether it's actually realistic to get out of range. Sometimes the attack is just too fast, or the range too wide.
