Right now the game is vertical were you make the made rush to the top. With the gear the same on the items levels and might be good bye on next updates.
Horizontal climbs are that there equal, but there always a use to them gears or armor no matter what.
Mainstream is almost 100% vertical now using level increases to negate everything to keep people on a somewhat equal playing field.
I would be very surprised if SE changes course They have the misguided belief that content negation will keep people playing longer it seems.
