Question: Remake my character or can I salvage this situation ?

I made my character with the idea of emphasising FIRE, the looks the name and even the goddess... but my job I have since found out is a healer.
I heard you can switch jobs by changing your equipment but how versatile is this system ?

Currently I am a Conjurer as the flavour text describing the class said it used nature and elemental spell and FIRE being both natural and an element I figured I would be able to gain fire attacks and be more a flame orientated character... seems that the class I really needed was the Thaumaturge, but I think the description was all about lightning (IIRC).

Can I salvage this current character and go the flame route or do I need to re-roll as a Thaumaturge ?

Once you get to level 10 and do your level 10 conjurer quest, you can go to the thamaturge guild and start the quest there and then become a level 1 thamaturge. You may need to wait until you finish your level 15 main story quest, so that you unlock the airship in order to travel to Ul'dah easily, which is where the thamaturge guild is. then you can switch to thamaturge just by switching weapons (or saved gear sets, which is the prefered way).

You level up each class separately on the same character.

Be warned you can only do quests once, but if you have a higher level class, all lower level classes get +50% exp from kills and fates.

If you are only level 6, then you might just want to re-roll for convenience sake. Its up to you.

Also, thamaturge/Black Mage, is fire/ice/lightning, and you will need to use all of those to make the character work, especially fire/ice. This isnt going to be a situation where you could be, say, a Fire spec Mage, like in WoW

You will also need 15 levels in Archer, in order to become a Black mage at level 30.

THM's are black mages, they use fire, ice and lightning spells (Mainly switching between fire and ice rotations) along with arcane type spells. Conjurers are healers who are earth and water based, you cannot steer conjurer into a fire element sadly.

Some skills can be taken from another class but not all skills and.. from my knowledge fire isn't one of them, You can however switch to any class you like after getting conjurer level 10 and doing the class quests from the conjurer guild all the way through to the level 10 one. After you finish the level 10 conjurer quest, you'll be able to get every class in the game except the ones in limsa because you'll need airship pass from your level 15 quest to go there.

Thaumaturge is in Ul'dah though so you should be able to reach it just fine. :)

Edit: To add onto the airship vs foot travel part... by level 10 you should be able to rent a chocobo from a chocobo porter in order to travel around, You'd need a bit of guidence to get there but Ul'dah is not that far if you know where you're going so you can ask around or look for maps. :)
