I just think there should be a release option if you catch something you do not want but still get the exp for catching the fish. It just every time I catch something I do not want I have to discard it. just a suggestion.

Well you can always npc it. I mean, it might not be much gil, but it's better than nothing, right?
Selling fish for gil requires running back to the vendor. I usually just start tossing the low level fish (even Crafting Material/HQ!). I could bury Twintania in Copperfish at this point. Unfortunately, adding a release option might be difficult to incorporate into the fishing flow comfortably.
I'd rather get the gil rather than letting it go. Even if it is only single digit.
Can't you just stand in water and pretend discard is really releasing them? What would be the difference?
I could be wrong, but I think the unspoken thought behind the "release" is that that particular fishing attempt not count towards whatever the area limit is.
You can fish for a long time at any one spot, but then you get that message about the fish sensing something is amiss. That, as far as I can tell, is tied to the number of casts you make, though I am not sure if time away from the hole, casts at another hole, or some combination of the two work towards restocking it for you.
Right now, you can spend a lot of time at a fishing hole, discarding (or selling) anything you do not want, and walking away from the vendor with some fish you wanted to keep. If I'm right about what the OP wants, you could spend a lot more time at that same fishing hole, "release" all the fish you don't want, and walk away from the fishing hole with a lot more of the fish you did want.
Pretty sure it's more based on how much time you've been there than how many cast you've made. As I've started fishing somewhere before, had a queue pop, did my dungeon, and when I got back the fish would sense something is amiss. That and I've started fishing in a spot, afk'd for about 20mins, come back and the fish sense something amiss again. Also, I'd be against anything that would convenience anyone using a bot (increasing the time you can sit in one place). Mainly because I feel like the amount of time you can sit in one place right now is quite sufficient.
Yeah, it's not dependent on casts. Early on I afked near the fishing guild and came back to where I couldn't use that spot because they sense something wrong. I hadn't fished that much in that spot yet either.
you have to go to the NPC to repair your gear.............
sell off crap fish at the same time........
