benediction
Hey white mages, does Benediction pull hate? Does it over heal? I got yelled at today in a dungeon because a DD got hit by a monster and I used Benediction on him to heal him to full, and I got yelled at. When the monster hit him it brought him down to less than 50% as we were running. He said that benediction over heals and pulls massive hate. I never had any problems with hate issues using benediction, until today as we were running, and the person got hit.

I haven't tested this personally, but you could probably check it out fairly easily on your own by making a quick mouse-over macro for Benediction, /ac "Benediction" <mo> I think. Target a mob your group is fighting, pop Benediction on a group member and monitor your threat bar to see if it spikes drastically.
The notion of "benediction pulling massive hate" might very well be an antiquated remnant of FFXI Benediction, which actually did more or less ensure that you would be tanking for the foreseeable future.
Failing that, I've noticed a lot of DPS like to yell at healers for doing their job correctly, so I wouldn't take it too personally. I got yelled at by a monk for applying dots while fighting trash on my SCH when the group was topped off and shielded. I guess I was supposed to just go AFK until someone took damage.

I don't think it overheals, it always recovers what your target is missing compared to other spells which will show all that the "healed" for even if your target is at full HP. It does give a lot of hate depending on the timing though, like if you are like me and a little too Holy-happy in Wanderer's Palace and have to Benediction the tank early =P

1. I'm going to assume you didn't pull hate, everyone lived and life went on happily in the dungeon after you cast Bene.
2. Yes, technically Benediction pulls a lot of hate but, depending on when you cast it, it's really no biggie. Plus, you have hate mitigating moves like Fluid Aura/Repose/Shroud of Saints.
3. I DO typically save Bene's for the tank, but it is also our 'OH CRAP!' move...so use it when you think 'crap don't die on me!'
4. Going to assume the DD screwed up somehow for needing such a big heal in the first place...and then blame you, which is typical.
5. I don't think benediction can overheal...I think it can only 'heal to cap HP amount' but not sure,
6. On some speed runs/Holy Trash burns... I purposefully will use Benediction to heal the tank so I don't need to swap out of Cleric's Stance/stop DDing/waste MP. I can let the tanks HP's drop way low, pop bene and they are good to go.
7. Many DD's are completely ignorant to what the healers skillset is...or to the fact that we even have spells other than cure/aoe cure/sleep/shield type spells. They believe our sole job is to follow behind them like puppies and keep their HP bars full...which while based in truth, if it's all we did, gimps our role and party.
Final Thought:
How many times do DD's tell Healers how to play their role?
How many times have you heard a Healer tell a DD how to play theirs?

^ What she said, Benediction is the "get out of s**t move" like the ACE card for healers. I have used it in Titan a couple time when things get a bit hairy in party 5 on the tank!

I didn't have problems with hate using Benediction. And it's kind of stupid to even yell at someone that used benediction to save your hp but what ever.... People will be people.
I usually use it on Tanks or the LB person as an "oh shit" button.

All heals pull hate but i would rather push the "OMFG" button and save a run than spam heals desperately and either see them die or pull hate from heal spam. A single benediction won't pull hate unless you are on the brink of it which you shouldn't be if you are managing your aggro and the Tank is doing their job correctly. Spaming a couple of Cure II's and a Cure within a few seconds however will push the aggro up really quickly. So yeah if it's off CD and somebody hits 5% HP and i know i probably won't need to save it for the Tank i'll use it on the DPS anytime over spam heals.

Benediction always overheals since you can't use it on a corpse and it will always heal 100% of a player's maximum hp.

I don't use it often, but whenever I have its been far enough into the fight that I haven't seen a notice pull of aggro from it over spamming cure 2 to fill someone up. I suppose if you used at or near the pull, it could pull some hate.
