Gear requirements for Coils as healer?

I'm mostly just curious, because I don't expect my gear to stand up to Coils, but I'd like to know where I should be at before I attempt it.

So far I have beaten all the Primals. I have my Relic, Vanya robes of Healing, and the rest of my gear is iLvl 55 crafted, which is better than the iLvl 60 stuff I can find as dungeon drops. I have two pieces of Jewelry from AK (necklace and a ring I believe), with the rest of it being HQ crafted jewelry melded with Vit. I almost have enough tomes to make myself a Vanya hat of Healing.

So, is this gear good enough for Coils? To get a full set of crafted iLvl 70 gear it will take about 19125 tomes, which I do NOT want to do before Coils. I will not be getting the Vanya pants, because they take 27 tome items, which costs well over triple Darklight, but on the flip side, I'll choose the crafted gear that I can see over Darklight, because I hate the look.

Get some DL unless you want to buy some vanya's pieces. You don't need a full set and your vanya's rob covers any aesthetic issues you have. Gimping yourself for aesthetic reasons is doing yourself and, more importantly, your group a disservice considering the gear check Coil has.

Im wandering the same, do I need full DL and Relic +1?

As a WHM I am doing well with full DL and Thyrus+1. Our group's SCH has full DL but no Omnilex+1, yet we have no trouble clearing turn 1-4 in under 1h.

As a general rule, a lot of FCs simply require full darklight/crafted before taking people into coil. Its a solid baseline, and realistically, the content is very demanding in terms of execution and skill (Turn 1 will hit your tank for a lot, if your mind isn't high enough, you simply can't do anything about it to keep up).

Basically you should aim to be full ilvl70 with at least an i80 weapon. This isn't about "well I know this guy who did it in full AF you should just be better." This is about bringing a fair contribution to your team. I'm sure if you joined an experienced team where every member is already in several piecs of 90, a i60 healer could get carreid, but why would you want to be carried?


Just get the darklight blet/gloves/pants/boots to wear under your robes (i think the gloves and boots in particular are very pretty) and either crafted accessories or darklight accessories. All of those slots are substantially less tomes than the crafted equivilants, and will get you in the door.

That said, everyone else in your group will have grinded out full dl, and probably before the rescent updates to WP which make it take 1/3 the time.

DL and Relic is fine for a healer as long as you know what you are doing :) Heck DL and Garuda weapon will be fine, the gear demands are on DPS and Tanks for this one.. although Relic+1 and full AF+1 would hae peoples attention, as long as you are a competant healer i dont believe its that important

Thanks for the replies everyone, by the sounds of it, it looks like I should wait until having a full set of darklight/2 star crafted gear.

@Vech I never said I was going to be wearing bad gear, just that I prefer to wear Vanya over Darklight, which is fine because Vanya is actually better. I'll be getting Vanya chest piece and hat, then probably darklight everything else.

Keep in mind that this is a SE game and that last FF MMO that SE made was FFXI. In FFXI, my friends and I had this old adage: "The worse a piece of gear looks the better it is!"

For Scholars I'd also suggest to get at least all Darklight before trying it, and get Conjurer to 34 for Stoneskin, putting it on your faerie and maybe party members in mid-battle is quite useful. C;

Sounds like you were attempting to find a Coil group with some relatively "bad" gear.
