My FC (old FC now) is leaving Goblin for a high pop server because of the fear that our lower pop server will die out of people. Imo: in previous mmos servers just got merged so this wasn't a big deal.
My boyfriend and I are staying and not moving with them. I'm wondering what the reasoning behind this is? Plenty of people LFG/FC on our current server. Imo: if there is no open world pvp plans we don't see a need to move.
Wondering others thoughts on the subject.

One reason could be the economy. In my previous experience, I was on Ramuh in FFXI, and the economy was terrible and heavily controlled by RMT. Granted, all servers were, but when I moved to Bahamut, stacks of stuff that had a hard time selling at 1000 gil on Ramuh were going for 2000 like hotcakes.

Honestly if you have an established fc then why should the whole fc move? Seems kind of silly with the added complications and the fact that some may be locked out if it fills. High pop servers are good for a few things though, CHANCE for lower duty wait times, more people to meet and bring into the fc, and more to pvp against. If your fc can maintain itself and does its own runs for everything though I don't see a point. Personally like lower pop servers myself.

But to me being on a low pop server would be good less people to deal with, More gil for crafters cause you wont have 5k ppl trying to undercut one another. Reasons to be on a high population server:
1. Active market.
- Want that top end item? Low pop server may not even have it for sale. Or if it is for sale, it's the only one for sale that week and the seller will want outrageous price for it.
- More buyers if you're selling at competitive prices.
2. More in-server groups.
- These beat DF because you can vet people before starting. And people knowing they may see the others in group again leads to a *slight* increase in civility. Both of these lead to a higher chance of success than random DF group.
3. Larger pool from which the FC can recruit.
- Want to be successful in difficult content? Not just any members will do. Larger pool means better chance of finding the right person.
4. FATEs actually finishing.
- I played for a little while early this morning (off peak hours) and saw this happen. You can't really win a boss fate solo or with 2 random players. Higher pop means this happens less often.
For this reason I stayed on a high population server, even back when it took hours to log in. Low population I've done out of necessity in other games and don't want to do it again.
You can find some advantages to low population too I'm sure. However, I can't imagine any that I would weigh heavier than these.
