Story quest required?

So I was wondering if the story quest chain is required to be completed to all end game stuff? Relic weapon quest, HM end game dungeons, 8man raids and so on.

I completely passed up my story and wondering if I should go back or not.

Story quests are absolutely required, all the dungeons, aside from like 4~ side dungeons are in the main quest, and those side dungeons require completion of the main quest to open up as well.
