Hello all
I'va just unlocked my chocobo mount and it seems that I can use him in battle. So When should I start summoning it ?? Right away in every battle??
I see that he has level and abilities so should I level him up right away
In what circumstances do I use my companions in battle

Yea u can use him in battle as much as you want, but he does take a bit of exp from you when u have him out ( I think its 10%??? ) =)
Ho, ok, he takes XP, hum....
Is he mandatory in quests lvl 30+ or it's just a nice addition when you are soloing?
nah he is just usefull help you kill you faster or heal some, most of his good ability do not come before lvl 4
Yea im lvl 41 black mage and I still havnt really used him :)
One of the main issues with the chocobo is that he counts as a party member, and thus cannot be used for any solo content (Like most quests and grand company leves), if you do join a party (Like a FATE party) he takes up a party slot. Also, he can't be used in dungeons.
I pretty much only summon my chocobo when I know I'm going to be in one area for a while and don't mind running back and forth. Running a bunch of (non-GC) battle leves, for example. I hate having to dismiss and resummon all the time, and you can't mount with the bird out, so if I know I'll be traveling any decent distance, I don't bother.
Or you can use the chocobo to help fight enemies 5 levels or higher then you are.
It does take forever however to level them up.
